What a great win for Cardinals fans, it must feel as great as when the Pats made their 1st Superbowl or the '96 Superbowl.

I'm beginning to suspect the same way Belichick was a big reason for Parcells' greatness, Whisenhunt was the true brains behind Cowher. Behind two great/above-average coaches were their more talented assistants.

In Whisenhunt's 2nd year as Steelers OC, they win the Superbowl.
In Whisenhunt's 2nd year as Cardinals HC, they go to the Superbowl.

This guy is the next great coach after Belichick, and the bumbling Cardinals family completely lucked out in hiring this guy. They'll probably do something stupid and screw it up in a few years though and push Whisenhunt out.

We'll see how great he is next year when he loses half of his team. Warner, Arrington, Pope, Berry, Dansby are all FA and Boldin wants out. And Boldin may have sealed that today when he was clearly calling his OC something that the OC didn't appreciate. Edge also is unhappy and has a huge cap number next season. Lots of tough calls for the Cards front office this offseason.

It's the nature of the sport... but to take the hapless Cardinals to the Superbowl, over some very tough teams along the way, is an extremely impressive feat.

I agree. It sums up the wacky - crazy year that was 2008 in the NFL!

You can't seriously think that the Cardinals are the next best team in the NFC. They are in the superbowl by default and they will come back down to earth next season when the rest of the NFC bounces back. The Cardinals are a product of the rest of the NFC suffering injuries to key players.

... which makes it all the more amazing that they beat some quality teams in the playoffs to make it to the big show. This doesn't seem like a coaching fluke, Whisenhunt was here just two years ago as the Steelers OC

'IF' he finds a way to win in two weeks...

Mike Singletary has the Niners going in the right direction now. Steve Spagnuola should turn around the Rams. Not sure about the Hawks-Holmgren left, Hassellbeck is a year older, and that entire team needs to rebuild. The NFCW will be much stronger next year.

But you can't take away what Wisenhunt and the Cards are doing in this playoff run. Wisenhunt made a key adjustment that helped tremendously-running a more balanced attack. I'm surprised he waited all year to do it.

I DO think they match up with the Steelers well-their front 7 should give Pitt's weak OL alot of fits, and their receiving corps match up very well with a somewhat shaky secondary(sans Troy P). Will Hines Ward be healthy enough 2 weeks from now? He's the engine that makes Pitt's offense run. They were moving the ball very well when he was in the game, but after he left, they just went kaput.

Tomlin has also done a great job. Amazing that both were coordinators on the Steelers' championship team two years ago, they had a strong staff behind Cowher. I would say Whisenhunt making it to the bowl is more impressive than Tomlin, because he took over a horrible franchise whereas Tomlin inherited a Superbowl winner.

I love the job he's done with that team. Not sure how much input Whisenhunt has into the playcalling, but his OC did an amazing job as well yesterday. They ran some really pretty plays, I almost felt like I was watching the Pats for a second ;)

Wish him all the best in the SB, I think head to head he will outclass Tomlin. It's just a matter of can the players get it done against that defense.

Phenomenal game for the Cards. They nearly battled back and defeated the best team in the NFL

Their OC is Todd Haley, who was one of the offensive assistants under Parcells here in Dallas. He clashed with TO in his last season here in '06(of course, the latter had alot to do with it), and Meshawn didn't get along with him much either.

He has a very strong personality like Parcells, which is why I really liked him when he was here.

The porous Cardinals D also played very tough for 58 minutes.

Cardinals enter the Super Bowl loser jinx in 2009/10 and I don't think they will be any different than most of the others this decade, they will MISS the playoffs next season - SF will win that division next season with a Head Coach like Singletary that is going to have that team diciplined and ready to try and get back to thier glory days of the 80s

Whether you think there is a Jinx or no jinx it just happens this decade

Book it - Next season when Leinhart takes over at QB,the Cards will go back to the old non playoff years

Remember the Hawks made the playoffs the year after they lost the Super Bowl. They were 3 pts away from advancing to the NFCCG. If Hassellbeck and his center had a clean snap late in the 4th, they would have driven for the game winning FG. To boot-they would have prolly beaten New Orleans in the title game, even though it would have been played in the Superdome.(I know I'm going through "What ifs", but as you can see...)

And hey-the Pats were 11-5 last year, and have alot going for them next year.

Like I said earlier-I don't think the Cards will suffer THAT badly with the SB loser jinx-they're $40m under the cap, Wisenhunt has them drafting better, etc.
