CB- D.J. Moore Vanderbilt ?

Its way to early I know but i see where a bunch of mocks have us taking him in the first.
Its a need but is he a solid pick in the first or are their better guys at this pick?

It's never too early. I think it makes sense. I've only seen him play in the bowl game, but I was impressed and he played through an injury.

He fits the mold of a Pats CB, smaller, quicker.

Unfortunately I think there is a good chance Moore goes top 20 by the time the draft comes around. I think he is a much better option for the Pats than Vontae Davis, and he may pass Davis up as the #2 CB by April.

He's a great CB but a little short - sort of a more talented version of Ellis Hobbs. If he were 2 inches taller he's be right up there with the others, but I would put him a bit lower than the others as it is. I probably like Alphonso Smith and Darius Butler the best of the next tier CBs, and would be happy with him in the second round if things fell that way, but I see him as a reach at #23 because of his height. JMHO. Ochmed is probably much more knowledgable about him.

Yeah. id take Moore (S) over a CB too. I think with Hobbs, Wheatley and Wilhite we have an OK bunch of corners, two of whom coming off a fairly impressive rookie season and there's always FA. I just dont see Bill going CB round 1 at all

Agreed, safety or LB with the first pick. Corners feel like WR's - too scary/unpredictable to pick in the first.

Strong safety play is a characterstic of several of the playoff teams we've seen this year, the Ravens with Reed, the Steelers with Polamalu, the Eagles with Dawkins, the Cardinals with Adrian Wilson, etc. I think the Pats have a hole at SS, and it can be filled on the first day of the 2009 draft if they want to fill the need that way.

On the positive side, this is a deep draft for CBs, and one solid one should be available midway through the second. On the other hand, I'm not sure I see BB using a first-rounder on a pass-rushing OLB (Sintim, Kruger). There's mid-round help in that area, too.

Bingo! It's still early to tell, but my impression of this draft class is that but the time we pick, the remaining LB prospects will be DE/OLB conversion projects. Meanwhile, there will be a group of 5-6 cornerbacks with nearly equal ability, meaning none of them are value picks and one is surely to be around when we use San Diego's pick in round 2.

This draft is incredibly deep at OL. I anticipate a rush on offensive tackles much like last year's, but unlike last year the talent doesn't dry out after the top 5 guys.

DJ is a good player, but he is not an elite player. He may be slightly better than the CB options NE would have at the beginning of round 2. (Alphonso Smith, Macho Harris, Darius Butler) value wise, he's not a good pick in round 1. I'd go in a different direction.

Just like a kid out there? people usually say that to express how much fun they have while playing the game. I don't think he meant that in a negative way.

I am hoping we trade Cassel.I like him but i am assuming that TB will be back and they are really high on that QB we took last year in the draft.

There is only one CB in this draft that I think BB would take in the first round and that is A. Smith of Wake Forest.

Smith is a better option at CB than Morre for the following reasons.

1.) Superior Ball Skills
2.) Super quick twitch, change of direction, (an absolute must).
3.) Tackling skills, not afraid to come up and lay the wood.
4.) Starting in the base defense experience.
5.) ST experience.

However Moore is a much bettter return man.

Smith is the only CB I think fits the BB mold and is a first round talent. However I do not advocate BB taking Smith or any other CB in the first round, I think BB can find CB's that fit his system almost as well in the third and fourth round (Burnett of UCF for example).
