Comparison of the Super Bowl era dynasties

Does losing the last Superbowl drop us off the list with those other teams? None of them choked in the big show.

Neither did the Patriots "choke in the big show". Rather, on that day the Giants played better. The team that plays better on a given day usually wins, though sometimes they require miraculous circumstances, like a helmet catch and a dropped potential INT.

It just always bugs me to hear it implied or stated so often that somehow that was an unearned championship, the Giants were receivers of an unanticipated gift, that the Patriots having their offensive line overwhelmed by defenders and having the other team make one more spectacular play than they did somehow equates to choking.

I would like to have had a better game plan and better execution, but not for one moment do I think that Patriots players were unprepared, "got the yips", froze up, were deer in the headlights, or whatever phrase that you want to use that is associated in my mind with the word "choke".

the agonizing part is if the defense doesnt give up a touchdown in the last 2 minutes of each game, the 2006 AFC Championship, and SB 42, the Patriots would have had 5 Super Bowl titles and would have been clearly considered the best team of all time.

What was Dallas's record in the playoffs in the 90s? - Not mentioned

Yup. So far, the Patriots playoff record:

01 3-0 SB win
02 0-0
03 3-0 SB win
04 3-0 SB win
05 1-1
06 2-1
07 2-1
08 0-0

In playoffs 6 of 8 years with a record of 14-3. No one-and-dones either, unlike "team of the decade" hopefuls Colts, Steelers, and Giants.

Losing the superbowl means you're better than the team that lost the championship.

Those other teams didn't "choke" in the superbowl because they weren't good enough at that point.

It was kind of a perfect storm though, and I think thats a lot of the reason people think the Giants received a gift.

If Brady doesn't hurt his foot/ankle the week before, Neal getting hurt in the first quarter doesn't make a huge difference. If Neal doesn't get hurt, Brady being less mobile doesn't make a big difference.

Meant to add in the Patriots/Cowboys playoff records, but I had exceeded the thread edit deadline.

Cowboys
Playoffs: 12-5 (.701)

Patriots
Playoffs: 14-3 (.824)

Also, wanted to add - in complete, where we would stand with another Super Bowl next year among the four dynasties...

Most Super Bowl Championships (Tied)
Most Conference Championships
Most Conference Championship Appearances (Tied)
Most Division Championships (Tied)
Most Winning Seasons
Best regular season winning percentage + wins (With at least an 11-5 record)
Best post-season winning percentage + wins

I hear you and hear you all too load :(. It is something that I have said to myself several times over the last few years, imagine how things would be different if that happened . . . lookie here

'01 - SB Champs - beat the most recent team to beat at that time - Rams

'02 - miss PO, but only to a tie breaker, and a three way tiebreaker which is rare, had it been simply a two way tiebreaker with either the Jets or Mia we win the division , but only because it was a threeway did we not make the PO

'03 - SB Champs

'04 - SB Champs, 21 game win streak, 34-4 overall, 19-1 against teams with winning records, etc.

'05 - one brain fart, bad game, iffy refs . . . it happens

'06 - SB Champs (had we stopped PM and likely beating the Bears)

'07 - SB Champs 19-0 (had we stopped Eli)

'08 - TFB goes down, miss PO but do so with the best post merger record ever to miss PO

even if you dont put up this dream sequence as an argument of best all time, and you go with just the actual results, you will have all of that above and the 06-07 SB "wins" are replaced by the fact that we had the lead in the last few minutes, so we got three SBs and were at the wire on two more . . .
