Nice little article on the guy who puts the "erio" in Belerio.

Caserio can step right in - The Boston Globe

Excerpt:

"I've always been very, very impressed with Nick's ability to adapt, and I think it speaks volumes to his ability to buy into Bill's system and being a team guy and doing whatever it takes to help the team win," said Atlanta Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff, the former director of college scouting for the Patriots.

"Nick has always risen to the occasion when asked to fulfill a task for Coach Belichick. I think it's been invaluable for his development as a budding executive in this league. He's obviously well-rounded on the coaching side and personnel side, and it's very rare to see that."

That was a nice read...Interesting that McDaniels referred him. And really interesting the way BB swapped him between the front office and coaching, one would have to believe that gives him a better understanding of what talent to scout.

he was wr's coach right? maybe well have more success in that area now then we have been having lately...

We are getting OLD in that area I think we need youth rather than a 32 year old reciever. :D

He spent a year as the WR Coach and he also spent time as an "offensive coaching assistant where he actually took reps as a RB in several practices to help the tea out.

His background is in offense, I hope it doesn't cloud his judgment especially since we should go defense the next few years with top picks.

Scott Pioli was a college DT, and I don't think that hindered his ability to evaluate QBs. . . .

I think we'll be OK, we have someone else in the front office who's looked at a few defensive players in his time.

Caserio has been responsible for pro player personnel and the director of player personnel since February. Obviously, he has been responsible for judging both offensive and defensive players.

Are you suggesting a team executive that might also serve a dual role as a running back on the shadow roster given the injuries at that position? I've got to tell you, DaBruinz, that represents a practice easily fitting the definition of both progressive and a little old school. I'm liking this guy already.:)

I haven't seen anything official from the Pats on Caserio getting the VP role, maybe he stays at his current position with a bump in pay of course and fills Pioli's role. Thoughts?? It's my understanding that there is more than double pay difference from Caserio's position to Pioli's new position.

Is anyone else a bit dismayed that the Pats front office is younger than the linebacking corps?

So how long till a team wants to talk to Caserio?

At least 5 years or so, after earning at least two "NFL executive of the year" awards for stocking the roster with young and very talented players, especially at LB and DB.

Reiss reported Caserio was moving up to Vice President - Player Personnel. I'm good with that news.

I wish.

Cleveland.com reported that Atlanta Falcons President Rich McKay no longer is interested in the Browns' top football job and Kokinis is not sure whether he'll leave Baltimore. But Lerner mentioned other possibilities like Nick Caserio, a Lyndhurst, Ohio, native and John Carroll University graduate who is the New England Patriots' director of player personnel, and Charley Casserly, who spent 16 years as a GM with the Washington Redskins and Houston Texans and now works for CBS Sports.

''I'm talking to more people and scouring around more stones. Young guys like Nick Caserio, older guys, middle guys like Charley Casserly, there's a lot of them,'' Lerner said. ''There's much more to finding a guy when you have a structure with a club president. Clubs like the Colts have a different approach.''

At the rate things are going, in the next five years, I half expect a team to ask for permission to interview the Patriots' ball boys for their GM position. :D:(

So who's the president of player personel? Bill?

As long as Belichick knows him well and vice versa, its all fine by me.

The guy can play running back and run the front office? I knew Belichick liked them versatile but even this is ridiculous. ;)
