The guy is 35 but after watching him the past 2 playoff games, he is in incredible shape and I think would make a super pickup if the Pats want to bid on his services,I am not sure what a 36 year old Safety would go for in the 2009 market, but if Rodney hangs it up Dawkins would be high up on my choices of FAs to get at what I expect at a reasonable price - especially at his age he shouldn't be asking for Ty Law type money for example

He is still fast,a super hard hitter, smart,a team player and a great on-field general - Just the type of Patriots type player BB looks for

But I really wonder if Philly is willing to let him shop around or do they want him to complete his career there.

I'd be willing to bet that Rodney is back for one more year, AND, the Pats draft a SS early in the draft. I like Dawkins, but is he really an upgrade over our own aged SS? I'd like to see some youth, and speed at that position, and leave Brandon at FS.

He reminds me of our Bruschi and Harrison in a way,Up in age but still a big asset with their presence on the field and in the locker room

Of course Bruschi/Harrison and Dawkins are not even close to talent right now at their respective positions,Dawkins is still playing like he is 25 while Bruschi and Harrison look more like 55 at certain times.

Dawkins on a 1 year contract would be good for this team...but I doubt it happens or NE even gets to take a shot since I think the unbilical cord will never be cut in Philly land

Definitely is. I agree with you on wanting to see some youth added though.

Dawkins seems like he is going to finish his career in Philly anyway.

Yeah, it would take Andy Reid retiring and McNabb being ousted for Dawkins to leave....which with every playoff victory seems less and less likely a scenario.

But if Shanny can get fired....

Dawkins(and Runyan for that matter) are largely the reasons why Philly rises to the occasion in the final sprints-sure, Andy Reid is a bit overrated b/c of his clock management/2 minute drill/running the ball issues, however, he's lucky to have a presence in Dawkins that keeps the team and locker room intact with his leadership and fire.

The day Dawkins and Runyan leave could very well lead Philly back to their Richie Kotite/Ray Rhodes crapper days.

I love Dawkins and he could contribute here but I can't see why he would leave the Eagles. They are a strong team, he is too old to get a big payday by leaving and he is very active in the community in Philly. That said, if he wanted to do a Seau and join us for one last spin I would love to have him.

Darren Sproles could be a good fit if he enters FA and NE is interested.

Dawkins is definitely an upgrade for us. hes a great player, and i would love to have him. however, i dont think he is leaving the eagles and if he does, i dont think we will have enough money to give to him.

I second this sentiment.

Is Tank Williams still technically signed for us? If he is, I can see us going with him and Rodney (if he decides to try one more year), and drafting a safety early. We're going to need some kind of veteran that can play early, because it seems like it takes most Pats rookie DBs (and most D players in general) at least half a season before they start contributing regularly. Even if we draft a Safety in the first round, we're going to need a stop gap.

I would love to have Dawkins.....even with Rodney Back. Trio of Rodney, Dawkins, and Merriweather (ouch).

But I think it would take a lot for him to leave philly and if he does it is likely because the money is to hard to turn down and I don't see us making some offer that he couldn't refuse or the Eagles couldn't match.

But one can hope.

Yeah that's a nice idea because Rodney Harrison and Brian Dawkins can still cover TE's and RB's not to mention 3rd WR's consistently.

Love Bdawk but we need to think long term, I vote for some youth.

too old....................................

San Diego thought the same thing about Harrison. They thought he had nothing left in the tank. 2 Super Bowls later, they were wrong. Dawkins is signed for a while but he would be a great fit.

Sproles would be great for the Kevin Faulk role.

Oshiomogho Atogwe. Only 27, ball hawk, Rams MVP. The kind of player the Pats lack.

How about that Asante Samuel character? He's had a few picks in the Playoffs and a pick 6. Give him a go.
