Re: This season's injury summary....Pats fourth most injured

thats just starters missing games and going on IR(Brady/Maroney/Harrison/Thomas)
were missing a lot of other players down the stretch
-Wheatley*
-Alexander
-Crable*
-O'Callaghan*
-Rudd
-Smith
-Stokes
-Woods*
-Williams *
all those players couldve contributed ..Wheatley was in line up before he got hurt..Crable..who knows but with all our OLBs dropping..O'C couldve gotten in a bit when Light got hurt..Woods was starting..and Williams was supposed to play a huge role as a Rover

Do not have the expertise, but this figure seems low.. maybe someone can figure it out...

Yeah, we may not have had the most, but we probably had the most damaging, to the most important players.

Re: This season's injury summary...Pats fourth most injured

Starters missed is misleading stat IMO. Key backups were getting hurt. Plus Brady and AD are the equivalent of like 3 average to below average starters each on most teams.

Re: This season's injury summary...Pats fourth most injured

It would be interesting to see this NFL total compared to other years.

This seemed like a brutal year for injuries to starters.

And, as noted, these stats don't double-count when you lose the back-up to that starter. Otherwise Denver would have lost about 100 games just to their starting running back.

I agree...Comparing this year to years past overall I think would be interesting it DID seem like it was worse...but I would really like to see a trend on that to see if it is up down or flat..

Re: This season's injury summary...Pats fourth most injured

another reason the Jets and Dolphins will slide back next year.

They were lucky with injuries this year, besides their lame schedules and brain-locks by opponents in key games.

I think you're right, just like Cleveland this year vs. last year. As a Charger fan, beware the Patriots next year!

Games lost by starters due to injuries

Stumbled across this article from another site. It's applauding the Ravens for their success in overcoming injuries, but includes an interesting stat on the number of games each team lost starting players. It's not perfect; if a player is on the field for at least the first snap it concludes a game was not missed, even though that's tougher to overcome than having a week to prepare a backup, for example.

Injury-riddled Ravens have no need for lame excuses

Another thing not taken into account is how valuable the player lost was - i.e, a QB or a RG - and doesn't figure in when the backup goes out also (e.g., Denver and their 7 running backs.)

Baltimore and the Pats lost 64 games by starters due to injuries; only Denver, Seattle and Cincinnati had more.

Re: Games Lost By Starters Due To Injuries

Take a look at the 2003 Pats. Amazing.

Holy cow, here's the key statistic for me!

"This season, eight of the 10 healthiest teams in the NFL qualified for the playoffs."
