Another Preliminary Mock draft

Ok I've been thinking, reading, and watching some more. Here is my updated list....for now..... I've spiced it up a bit with us trading Minnesota Cassel for a 1st rounder this year and a second next year.

Not sure about 2010 second-rounder, but this year's first works for me.

#23: (from MIN) - Brandon Spikes - ILB - Florida
#24: William Moore - S - Missouri
Can only imagine what these two legitimate Pats prospects would do for the D. Potentially, they could both make a difference this year. Both are on my list as potential picks at #24.

#48: (from SD) Darrius Heyward-Bey - WR - Maryland
Contrary to others here, I have no problem re-visiting the round two well for another WR. Keep in mind though, Heyward-Bey is not an NFL-ready receiver (ala Branch). But his physical tools would be perfect as the future Moss.

#56: Max Unger - OL - Oregon
Not on his bandwagon YET. I can understand the versatility angle, but there are other O-linemen to consider as well.

#88 DeAngelo Smith - CB - Cincinnati
The Cincy CBs are indeed impressive. There are a couple of other CB options in this 3rd round area -- Joe Burnett is one of my favorites.

#97 (comp pick) Jarron Gilbert - DT - SD State
A solid sleeper pick who had a great season. Could easily see him bulking up as our 3-4 DE. Some teams will want him as their 4-3 DT for sure. He's been on my list as a Tomey connection.

#120: Bear Pascoe - TE - Fresno State
Can't say enough about this prospect. Forget his slow 40 time. He's an old school TE who plays the position the way it's meant to be played. He's not a pass-receiving Coffman (whom I also like), but whose blocking ability remains a mystery. Bear is a solid route running-good hands prospect whose blocking skills are a strength.

Most here talk about the Pat Hill connection as the former O-line coach for BB at Cleveland (hence the Mankins pick). Some are now also aware that Pascoe and Mankins have similar upbringings down on the ranch. No one yet has mentioned that Mankins and Pascoe were also very good friends. If that's not enough to chew on,it has also yet to be mentioned that Hill was also Belichick's TE coach at Cleveland.

If it's not obvious by now, I really like Pascoe, and will go out on a limb to say, I'd be very surprised if Bear isn't one of the Pats picks (earlier than round 4).

Gilbert, who I addressed a few posts above, I see putting on a bit of weight and being a Seymour style player. I believe he is a solid DE/DT in our system within a couple years or sooner. I don't think he is fast enough to play ILB, and we don't need another OLB in my opinion. We do need some depth on the D line though.

Oh and I was actually wrong on the School.. it's San Jose state on the DT....I got mixed up with O'Connell's school.

I guess I just don't see how a slow guy like Gilbert is going to put on 20 lbs and become a faster guy like Seymour.

Thanks for the reply.

NFL Draft Scout lists Gilbert at 280; 5 lbs. lighter than Jarvis Green, and 15 lbs. off what Sey claimed to be this season. He's got very good strength and very good hands. Depending on how he does at the Combine and whichever All-Star game he's going to, I expect his stock to rise. I believe he has the functional strength and the hands to play as a 2-gap 5-technique, and he'd be a stud on passing downs. Take another look Db, this draft is shy of 3-4 prospects and this kid is sliding towards my binkie list. LJr done good with this selection. :rocker:

Seymour and Green both have something this kid Gilbert doesn't. And that is speed. Gilbert is a good quarter second slower than either of them.

Green is a situational pass rusher who uses his speed and technique to get to the QB. Seymour is an every down player who uses his speed and techniquie to get to the QB. Gilbert is someone who doesn't seem to have speed. So, while he may be good as a 3-4 DE, he seems light and I don't see him adding 15-20 lbs without losing more speed.

Gilbert has a very good burst off the line. Or so that is the way it looks to me. You may be right but how often do these guys run 40 yards? The initail burst and power is what impresses me.

All this is just in fun of course. We all are probably wrong :)

I was referring to short area quickness. And I guess I just don't see the same out of this guy to think that he could beat out even LeKevan Smith. Never mind be a replacement for Seymour or Green.

And yes, its all in fun..

I would love to see us pick Gerald McRath from Southern Miss in the later rounds. I think he is a similar athlete to Guyton but he has been extremely productive in college.

Maybe a bit optimistic in spots.... Not flashy but addresses some needs.

1st round:

#24: Duke Robinson - OG - Oklahoma

2nd round:

#48 (from SD) Rashaad Johnson - S - Alabama
#56 Fenuki Tupou - OT - Oregon

3rd round:

#88 Mike Mickens - CB - Cincinnati
#97 (comp pick) Jarron Gilbert - DT - SD State

4th round:

#120: Bear Pascoe - TE - Fresno State

I would be veryconcerned if BB took Robinson in the first. He doesn't usually go for the flabby, leaners, he prefers the athletic drive blockers instead.

Thanks but what do you think of the revised mock I posted earlier today? You can see it on the page 2.

Very nice, I love the Max Unger pick. This kid screams Patriot. He can play all three Oline positions, strong, smart, mobile and a bit nasty.
