Well, I think the first round might be early for Unger, and I honestly don't know much about D. Johnson other than a blurb I read a couple of days ago....I wouldn't be upset with that draft though. Unger and R. Johnson are definitely players, and they're definitely players that could help sooner rather than later.

Oh, and enjoy retirement. You've earned it, I'm sure.

I don't think interior offensive line is a vital enough need to go with our 1st round pick. I prefer DB or LB. I'm not saying we should pay no heed to an OL that is a bit under-the-radar in terms of needing some sprucing up as the years go by, but we desperately need to continue rebuilding the D and I would much rather find a way to land a Cushing or Matthews or one of the safeties.

Taylor Mays would require trading up a lot, but if we got him I'd be pretty happy. And I'd be pretty pissed if we sat tight and went OG/C. (At which point I would think back on picks like Mankins, Branch and others and say, "Never mind, BB knows his sh!t.")

I think that there should be several corners to pick from with our second pick in the second.
I am trying to focus on positions of need and positions fo draft strength at the moment.

Many have talked a lot about linebackers, but I don't see it. I wouldn't mind having another, but I think there are far better matches of need and player.

Such as TE/OLB/ST Connor Barwin. :)

[Even better--he was a QB in HS, who was converted to TE when he arrived at Cincy. So that opens up some interesting Wildcat-esque options. :) ]

Agreed. About the only way I could see it is if Neal was going bye-bye and Mankins was expected to leave when his contract is up. Having an All-Pro guard needing an extension and a Pro-Bowl center who already got his cash...well that is a lot of coin for the interior line.

Sitting at #24 is looking to be a solid place exactly for the positions you mention. And if all the DBs and LBs get scooped up ahead of us, that likely means a top OT (Oher? JSmith?) will slide down and the Pats can swap out Nick "one-whiff-a-game-that-results-in-Brady-losing-precious-childhood-memories" Kaczur. Everybody happy! :eat3:

I like Cushing if he can transition to SILB next to Mayo. Don't like Matthews as much since he seems to be a one trick pony. Agree that Mays will likely be too pricey, but Will Moore should be around due to his stats falling off on a suckish 2008 Missouri defense.

Why are people infatuated with Alex Mack for the 1st round? He's rating out at a 2-3 round pick currently and the more underclassmen that come out, the farther down he's gonna slid..

Dominique Johnson is interesting, but, again, he's rated as a 3-4 pick. Would the Pats really reach 2 rounds?

I like the picks, though I'd prefer Will Moore or Taylor Mays over Johnson.. but any of the 3 would be good.

I was high on Mack a month ago, but with the amount of underclassmen coming out he's dropping. And the 1st round is too early for Unger, although I like the pick in a positional sense.

Johnson would be a fine pick at #44.

I still think we pick Moore if he's there in the first though.

Good point but I do recall when the Pats drafted Deon Branch (and a few other players) and the so called DRAFT GURU's said he was picked 2 or 3 rounds to high..

I'd also prefer Will Moore. I thought that he was out of reach.

Umm.. No. That would be Bethel Johnson you are thinking of. Branch was a solid 2nd round pick by the time the draft came around.

I love this mock.

You can add OT to Unger's position. He was all PAC10 as a sophomore.

Johnson was former walkon that earned his way up to a starting position. He makesplays and plays with a chip on his shoulders.

Somewhere along the line I slammed the idea of Max Unger in round 1. Not the sexiest pick but having a guy with his versatility on the O line for the next five years is not a bad thing.

I don't have a problem with Mack. He's a smart player and we all know BB covets smart players.

Either Moore and R. Johnson are round 1-2 talents IMO. Moore reminds me of Polamalu a great deal... Johnson (Ed Reed type)

Wm Moore can cover TE's, or WR coming over the middle which was our challenge er problem this year.

Does anybody have Polamalu's 40 time before he was drafted?

4.2 I believe

Where would we put unger rookie year

Left Guard with Koppin as center???

Taylor Mays isn't in the draft and William Moore couldn't cover Hart Lee Dykes

I don't believe branch was.........I, too, recall him being picked before his time, but I also recall zero criticism for when the pats did because he matched what the pats did so well

Prior to the draft, there were a lot of knocks on Branch because he was a bit vertically challenged.
