What game tape are you most proud of?

Im not talking Super Bowl 36, everybodys got that. I mean a real gem, something you'd show visitors to your house ( football fans that is).

For me its a close call between Super Bowl 3, Jets-Colts NBC, the 1970 NFC Championship Game Cowboys-49ers CBS, or some footage of the first game i ever remember watching, 1970 Giants-Cowboys CBS. Sometimes i enjoy watching old games more than a current one.

I have the 1976 MNF game against the Jets a 41 to 7 slaughter. I love watching that game and what a great team.

I love to throw in the 1998 game winning drive against the Dolphins are home on Monday night football. That last drive had a TON of drama, just to recap......

1.) Pats QB Drew Bledsoe breaks his finger off the helmet of a Miami D Lineman during the drive.
2.) Scott Zolak was warming up on the sidelines because during a few times in the drive Drew looks like he may take himself out of the game.
3.) Commentators were trashing the Pats (and rightly so) for running the ball on the first play of the drive and then going into a full huddle even though there was only two minutes left and 80 yards to go.
4.) In spite of all that the Pats convert two THIRD and LONGS and two FOURTH and LONGS!
5.) The team completely IGNORES Pete Carroll's request to call time out right before a key FOURTH AND SEVEN. Commentators point out how Terry Glenn was looking right at Pete Carroll but still refused to call time out, remember, coaches couldn't call time out in those days.
6.) Bledsoe/Pats win it with a 23 yard TD pass to Shawn Jefferson. Stadium erupts into a frenzy.

That was a FUN, FUN, finish.


My favorite tape/game is the 2004 (played in 2005) Divisional Playoff game between the Pats and Colts. The Colts had the record setting quarterback Peyton Manning (49 TDs) and three wide receivers who EACH had 1,000+ yards and 10+ TDs (M.Harrison, R.Wayne, and B.Stokley). Furthermore, the Colts were fresh off another playoff demolition of the Broncos, and to add more doubt to Patriots nation the Pats secondary was depleted with injuries. The Patriots were starting rookie Randall Gay at CB while using Troy Brown to cover Stokley. Even with all that being said, the Pats won 20-3 in what ranks to me as the Patriots finest moment.

I had to work the day of the BC-Miami/Flutie vs. Kosar game which became the " Hail Mary" game back in 1984 and set the VCR and ended up with a tape that covered the entire game commercials and all. I sit back at least once a year when I have the house to myself and watch from beginning to end.

The 1978 game at Dallas for me, even though it was a loss. During that era a game at Dallas was the biggest event I can remember as a young Pats fan. The Cowboys and Steelers, in those days, were larger than life and to see the Pats in a game at Texas stadium was huge. I still get frustrated watching that game as the Pats completely dominated the first half but were only up 10-3 thanks to 3 missed chip shots by the immortal David Posey . The Cowboys came back in the second half to win 17-10.

2002 Final Week of the season...Pats come back in the fourth quarter to beat the Dolphins and it looks like they'll make the playoffs.....All we needed was Brett Favre to win one in the Meadowlands and we're......wait that sounds familiar.... ohh and just a side note I've reviewed the tape from that Wrangler commercial with Favre and I'm determined that he threw a pic on that stupid ass off balance pass at the end..what a chief

The AFC Championship game against Pitts. After nailing the Colts 20-3 we marched into Terrible Towel Land, Brady sick as a dog, Steelers' bags all packed for their trip to the SB, so we went out there and totally kicked a*, beating them 41-27. And Rodney's TD just buried them.

1985 at home vs Miami, a 17-13 victory.

I acquired a copy only in the last year; it's funny how the memory plays tricks on you.

What I recalled: 3 quarters of frustration; Grogran and the Pats couldn't get anything going offensively. A long bomb to Irving Fryar was called back by a penalty sometome in the first half. Finally, trainling 13-3 in the 4th quarter, the Pats scratch a drive together by any means necessary, culminating in a 4th and 1 around the Miami 32. In comes Big House Tom Moore to do a Refridgerator Perry impersonation, but it turns out he's only a decoy. The hand-off goes to Mosi Tatupu; there's no where to go but it turns out to be a flea flicker; the pitch back to Grogs who lofts a lazy pass to a wide open TE Dawson (?) for the touchdown, it's 13-10. The Pats quickly stop the Fins 3-and-out after the ensuing kick-off. This time, the Pats hammer it down the field, ripping off runs of 7, 8 and 9 yards, and later a 19 yard run, all culminating in a Grogran bootleg for the winning TD.

What actually happened: (1) the hammer-it-down-the-field drive was actually the first touchdown, which ended up stalling out at 4th and 1 on the 32; the touchdown itself was as I remembered it, the trick flea flicker play; (2) the scratched-together-by-any-means-necessary drive was actually the winning touchdown, with Grogs (banged up knees and all) leaping over the sole Dolphin defender not fooled on the play; (3) Marino and the Dolphins did not go 3-and-out between the touchdowns -- there were actually some anxious moments before the stop finally did occur and the Pats got the ball back.

Anyhow, this was a huge game. After a slow start to the season (2-3), the beat Buffalo and then beat the 5-1 Jets on another Grogan bootleg to begin building momentum that season. A few weeks later and we were all starting to get excited about the season when the Fins came to town for this game.

Seymour was out for that game as well. Excellent effort by the defense all around.

My game tape choice would be the Snow Bowl. I remember the feeling of elimination, the disbelief, I truly, honestly felt the Patriots were destined to make it to the Super Bowl, and it felt wrong that they were about to lose. And then euphoria when the call got reversed. I prayed and prayed, but couldn't believe it when it actually got reversed.

The Snow Bowl is great, not just for the game itself but also for the postgame on Channel 4 where Steve Burton and camera crew run onto the field to get the team's celebration of Vinatieri's game winning kick.

Other than the obvious candidates, there are some pretty interesting games. I have the 1992 Patriots-Colts game which was Scott Zolak's first start. Some time during the second half, the Budweiser-marinated Paul MacGuire exclaims "Scott Zolak's gonna be around this league for a long time!" Sure, Paul.

The season finale at Miami in 1986 where a Grogan to Morgan TD pass in the last minute clinched the AFC East was a tremendously entertaining game.

Another that I watched many times over the years was the Patriots-Giants at the Meadowlands in 1996. NE trailed by 21 late in the third quarter and rallied to win, clinching a playoff bye. Meggett returned a punt for a TD and Bledsoe threw a laser beam to Ben Caotes for the winning score in the final minute.

The Bledsoe record setter (70 pass attempts) against Minnesota in 94 is also a great one. Down 20-3 at the half, NE rallied to tie and won on OT on a Bledsoe to Kevin Turner TD pass.

I'm sure there are many others - not sure I know where to find all of them.

2 games from 1985, that I dont have, that I loved were the win at Seattle when Fred Marion ran by an INT. It was a national game and put the Patriots at 8-3. Then the following week they lost a tough game at the Meadowlands to the Jets. It was a great game, Grogan got hurt, Eason came back in and Berry went for a FG to tie instead of going aggressively for the win. they lost in OT. Even though they lost it had a playoff feel.

the final game against the Bengals when they clinched the playoff spot I only heard on the radio.
Yes, younger Patriot fans, those were the days when even playoff clinching home games didnt sell out and they were blacked out. I had to listen on the radio when they clinched in 1976, 1978 ( Its Good!!!! David Posey!!!!!!!), 1982, and 1985.

I guess this goes against the thread, those 3 are "Games I wish I had!"
