Sorry about another Pioli post but this seems to have a little more detail. Found it on Arrowhead Pride, quoting 610 sports radio.

Report: Chiefs Offer Pioli GMJob - Arrowhead Pride

610 Sports is reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs have offered Scott Pioli the job of general manager. Sources to 610 Sports say the two sticking points include money and control over football operations, specifically the coaching staff.

Money

It's unclear how far off the two parties are at this point. We don't know Clark Hunt's offer and we don't know Pioli's demands. But, if turning this team around is as important to Hunt as he's indicated, and if Pioli is the GM everyone hopes/expects him to be, then this shouldn't be a deal breaker.

We do know that Pioli was offered a 5 year, $15 million deal by the Seahawks in 2005 despite never interviewing for the job.

Power

According to 610 Sports, Pioli is seeking more control over football operations, specifically more control over the coaching staff. This likely means that he wants Herm Edwards gone if he decides to accept the job. Or he wants the power to make that happen if/when he's hired.

Former Chiefs GM Carl Peterson used to give his head coach control over his own coaching staff. Assuming Pioli does want Herm gone and Clark is fine with that, it's possible that the control over the coaching staff is referring to the freedom Peterson used to give his head coaches.

I can't imagine Clark Hunt will, after looking at the Chiefs the past two seasons, make this a deal breaker either. He's previously said he will ultimately make the decision on Edwards but some reports say he isn't likely to saddle a GM with a coach he doesn't want.

Stick around here for the latest updates to the Chiefs GM search.

I agree. If this is accurate and his financial demands aren't astronomical he's seriously considering this move.

Re: Chiefs Offer Pioli GM Job

A co-worker said Holley was quoting sources today as saying Pioli was likely leaving for KC. Sorry if repost or even false, I haven't had a chance to read through everything yet.

Why? I dont pretend to know much about the guy, but he's been willing to take the "home town discount" in the past.

I'm sure the Pats are already offering him a pretty decent raise as it is. They won't match Hunt in any offer but given the loss of Dimitroff sp? last year, the possible loss of McDaniels, Capers, and possibly even Brady this season, I'm willing to bet the Pats will make it worth his while to stay in the interests of continuity.

Re: Chiefs Offer Pioli GM Job

Best of luck to Pioli. A great GM.

But... Belichick has maybe 10 other guys he can call to fill the job.

Re: Chiefs Offer Pioli GM Job

The AP reported Hunt and Jonathan Kraft are "close friends.” This is unique opportunity for Pioli since Hunt lives in Dallas and, as the grandson of H.L Hunt, he has many business interests besides his multiple sports teams. Hunt likely needs someone who can take charge and deliver results, and most likely money is no object if he thinks Pioli can handle the job.

Re: Chiefs Offer Pioli GM Job

I got a bad feeling when I read that Pioli's wife is from Kansas and she has relatives living in the state. Otherwise, from the Pats to the Chiefs?

Well, according to this report his demands this time seem to be acceptable, unlike what was being leaked from Cleveland. That right there tells me he's more interested in KC than the Browns. Just my opinion.

Whether that leads to him leaving and hopefully he doesn't we'll find out soon.

That very well may be true, but this offseason is starting to look eerily like some kind of fire sale to me. In spite of being a bit snakebitten since 2004, the Pats without question are still THE elite franchise in the NFL and I have to believe that Pioli has alot to do with it.

Herm Edwards is probably just as nervous as we are

Why do you think the Pats won't match Hunt in any offer?

Re: Chiefs Offer Pioli GM Job

If he leaves I hope the scouting department has their stuff together, this is an important draft for the team.

I think it will be more like Hunt being willing (and able) to best any Pats offer.

Re: Chiefs Offer Pioli GM Job

Herm to be replaced by McDaniels

Thigpen to be replaced by Cassel

All the pieces are coming together now

I see your point if this was strictly a $$ move but its not. I'm not naive enough to believe money does not play a huge factor but along with this is Pioli's desire to run his own show. Anyone who is as driven as you must be to attain the heights that Pioli has, would want to do this eventually.

I get a different read. What it tells me is that what Pioli wants is okay with Hunt but not okay with Lerner.

I think rather than Pioli asking for different responsibiities from each owner, it is more likely he is asking for waht he wants, no matter what club. Different owners simply have different reactions, which is to be expected.

Kind of funny, another member posted that the Pats should trade Cassel for Tony Gonzales the other day. Well, maybe Cassel is going to be throwing to him.

Re: Chiefs Offer Pioli GM Job

Do you think Hunt would consider Pioli without the Kraft's recommendation? Bob Kraft tends to think in terms of what's best for the league, since NFL owners benefit the most by working together and helping each other out.
