Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

maybe he'll ruin the steelers and ravens

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

I used to like the Browns...

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

well..sometimes things work out in a different place with a different set of players. maybe if he coaches a young teamhe can get his point across as supposed to the egoistic older players in nyc
whether he can build a good staff and create a program like BB remains to be seen

I don't know how selling his philosophy to players will help him with his clock management, knowing when to go for it or kick a field goal, or some of his ludicrious strategical in game errors.

Ditto. Way to flush your respectable legacy of success (acknowledging they are the New Browns analogous to New Coke as the Classic Browns are actually the Ravens) right down the proverbial toilet with a single personnel decision. The Browns are dead to me now. May they enjoy 2 or 3 consecutive 4 win seasons and redeem themselves by correcting this blunder if it turns out to be true.

I wonder if RAC stays there now:confused: If the reports on Josh taking Capers with him to Denver are accurate then it'll get real interesting. Shanahan's still out there too plus I saw a newsfeed in the VIP forum that Jadogvitch(??) from BC got officially fired for interviewing with the Jests.

I still don't get why the Browns hired a HC before a GM but maybe they're going to let Eric (The Man,The Myth,The Legend I guess ) pick his own team.

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

This is just stunning to me. What could possibly make a rational person believe that this man is qualified to be a professional football teams head coach? What does this say to the fans of Cleveland? How can they try and sell this load of crap to them?
This guy should be coaching high school teams at best.

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

People are letting their distaste for Mangini get in the way of common sense.

Was Mangini the real problem in NY? He certainly made mistakes, but in my opinion the real problem is Tannenbaum. Tannenbaum is a Matt Millen clone. No resume backing up the job he is in, has the owner's ear such that the owner is convinced it's all the coach's fault and the GM and other front office people deserve to keep their job. And Woody Johnson fires the coach then goes on vacation? Another out-to-lunch owner like William Clay Ford.

Apparently Cleveland management agrees with my position. If the report is true, that is, which is still a stretch because there is no apparent GM in place yet.

Read the bottom of page one and also page two. Not that it's all true necessarily but it paints a picture of a poor head coach.

Mangini is getting his own hand picked buddy, Kokinis from Baltimore.

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

If I had made half as many incompetent decisions at my job as he did as the NYJ coach I'd never work in my field again.

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

If I were the owner of a team and I had the chance to hire Mangini I would run the other way. It isn't that he is necessarilly a bad coach, it is that he cannot be trusted. In the grand scheme of things, a head coach in the NFL has be demand loyalty. For that to happen he has to be trusted, could anybody on this board really trust Eric Mangini?

Why ask this board?

You should go ask the Jets board. Obviously we took his manuevering as back stabbing but you have to ask the Jets fans if they took it as him being ratty or him trying to whatever he can to hurt a division opponenet thus helping his team. My guess is Jets fans enjoyed watching him attempt to destroy us but obviously think he is a failure because he couldn't do it but they likey don't feel distrust the way we do.

I don't even factor in that he supposedly ratted on the Pats. If he did, you could actually claim he was a success at something as he successfully torpedoed his former team and mentor. Unfortunately, that has no bearing on his ability to coach.

My disgust is more attributable to his elevating a team from 4-12 to 10-6 in his first year, getting the genius label, returning to 4-12 the next year, then forking a ton of money out on free agents to take the team to 9-7 and a 3 of 4 finish in his division. The Jets were publicly infighting much of the year, he actually killed the playoff prospects himself with bad coaching in the Seahawks game after receiving a gift win from the Bills, and managed to orchestrate the worst meltdown in Jets' history.

He may have been head coach material if he spent more time as a coordinator learning the higher level coaching requirements, but he took an offer after 1 year as coordinator, the only offer I recall him getting, to coach with a team rival his mentor has a pretty angry history with because he was disinclined to accept the advice that he was not ready, a result seemingly supported by his 23-25 record.

Well, now we only have 14 teams in the AFC to worry about.

Wow, I wonder when Browns fans will begin the rioting?

Great news for the Bengals, they might finally climb out of the cellar. :singing:

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

"Seems like a very low probability of success. Not only is Mangini not ready to be a HC but coaches with his personality rarely do well as head coaches. The tough guy approach woks with a Parcells' personality but not with Mangini's."

Yeah and the folks in Cleveland said the same thing about BB when he left there as their head coach. I am sure those same fans said same thing about BB when he was hired here.

How'd that work out?

Eric Mangini agrees to deal to coach Cleveland Browns - ESPN

When Crennel was hired as Cleveland's coach, he wanted Mangini as his defensive coordinator but Mangini decided to take over Crennel's spot with the Patriots instead.

Mangini will hire Jets quarterbacks coach Brian Daboll, whose contract is expiring, as his offensive coordinator, league sources told Smith.

For the position of defensive coordinator, sources told Smith that Mangini will bring aboard Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, whose contract with Oakland also is up. Also that Mangini and Crennel discussed the possibility of Crennel returning to work with Mangini but decided it best to both go in a different direction.
