Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

most teams that run the right way have the Gm pick the HC

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

Fully expected, the Browns fans can now prepare for more mediocrity.. if he sux can go back to being their ball boy..

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

Jesus, how this idiot lands on his feet is beyond me. The Browns are destined to be the doormats of the AFC North.

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

Seems like a very low probability of success. Not only is Mangini not ready to be a HC but coaches with his personality rarely do well as head coaches. The tough guy approach woks with a Parcells' personality but not with Mangini's. He doesn't have the resume to earn the players' respect the way Belichick did and from player accounts he doesn't have the out of the public eye personality and humor that Belichick surprises people with.

Better them than us :)

I imagine it'll be two and out for him. When he fails he won't be a HC again (in the pros anyway) for a long time if ever.

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

Whoa! Expect some wicked pissah scandal to hit the Steelers as Machiavelli Mangini does his thing in The Mistake By The Lake!

One plus for us is that Mangini will now attempt to poach the Jets for talent, further weakening that franchise in disarray. Yeah, I know they're not strong rivals but I just love watching the Jets annual transition from Super Bowl Is Ours, Baby! to implosion.

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

Good. Check off one possible destination from McDaniels' and Pioli's lists.

well..sometimes things work out in a different place with a different set of players. maybe if he coaches a young teamhe can get his point across as supposed to the egoistic older players in nyc
whether he can build a good staff and create a program like BB remains to be seen

Even BB admitted trying to do the parcells way in cleveland and failing.maybe mangini has learned with his exp in nyj.lot of people were skeptical about the bb hiring too not that he is even close to bb.

From what's being written he's going to try to bring as much of the staff from The Jest as he can. That worked great for him.

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

If true (not on ESPN currently, and Sons of Simmons?) then great news.

Cleveland seemed like a good spot for a Pioli-McDaniels move, and now that's out.
I couldn't see Pioli taking the GM spot at all now.
So, this increases the chances of Pioli and McDaniels staying - one opportunity down.

Of course, from Cleveland's point of view, I can't see the sense at all.

Wonder what the impact is on Crennel. Would he want to work for his old (one-year?) secondary coach?

Yeah, but BB had 4 years as a DC between his head coaching stints to reevaluate his HC style. Can Mangini jump right from one mostly-failed head coaching tenure into another job and succeed right away? I mean, I suppose he could pull a Tom Coughlin and readjust his personality toward his players overnight... but that doesn't seem all too likely...

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

In the history of Bad Idea's, this has got to crack the Top 100.

Can't to play 'em.

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

reevaluate his HC style.

Why would he though? He got a new job roughly a week after being fired. Obviously the Browns think his coaching style is fine, and I'm sure he does too.

Part of the reason being demoted works is because its a clear and enthusiastic showing that you're not doing your job well when no one will hire you to do it again.

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

Rat fink will be laughing all the way to the bank! I can't believe Cleveland is hogtying themselves with this snake. It would seem to make more sense to find the coach to work for the gm, not the gm that will work with said that pathetic excuse for a coach. I hope they are their division doormats for now but reach the playoffs 2 yrs after mangina gets the axe.

Also, Mangini is no Belichick. Mangini was a one year DC before becoming a HC. Belichick had won Super Bowls as a DC. Their resumes at similar points in their times getting their first then their second head coaching jobs are very dissimilar.

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

Lets really think about it though is Cleveland's decision a indictment on Mangini or them? I can't think of any HC in their right minds who would want that Celeveland job. What a train wreck organization...Eric Mangini was just in the right place at the right time. Another Three year rebuilding project, well atleast he has some pieces on Offense to work with but that Defense is a mess.

Brown is the color of dookie, which is fitting given the choice of head coach.

I just cannot understand the decision. The guy may interview well, but the Jets got the initial jump start when he took the head coach job indicative of injecting a disciplinarian to the team post-Edwards. The Jets never saw the playoffs again, despite adding a ton of veterans that should have been able to take the team somewhere and completely melted down this year prompting his firing. The only success Mangini has enjoyed is in a supporting role, and it is not clear how much he contributed to that success in the end. I would love to be a fly on the wall and hear the discussion that went into that decision.

Re: Eric Mangini To Be Named Browns Head Coach

That is such BS! Mangini should never be able to be a head coach again after what he did to the Pats.
