Ah, this is a wonderful time in the binkie relationship, before any pesky details have to get in the way of our infatuations.

A couple of candidates:

Rashad Johnson, FS, Alabama, 6'0" 190 4.50
Not a physical freak like Mays, but has reputation for outstanding football IQ & leadership, plus well-rounded game with good ball skills. Smart, Saban-coached senior should be the "readiest" safety in the draft.

Troy Kropog, OT, Tulane, 6'6" 296 4.90
Draftcountdown: "Good size with a large frame...Great athleticism...Very light on his feet...Quick and agile...Excellent pass protector...Smart with good awareness...Good mobility to get to the second level and pull...Moves well laterally...Natural knee bender...Technically sound...Uses his hands well...Nice balance...Outstanding work ethic...Tough...Has a fire in his belly...Lots of experience...A team leader...Still has some upside."

I don't want to box it in, a binkie can be any player that you think would be a great fit for the Patriots or is generally likable.

This is a player whose career you will follow for years, when their name comes up you will say:

"Damn I wish we drafted that guy"
or
"Thank god I am not the GM, I would have drafted that guy"

That's the best description I've ever read. It's the player you fixate on; the guy you have to somehow work into every mock draft; the guy who would make you dance around in glee if BB picked him.

I would love to see us pick Mays! Throw him in the lineup and its someone for the offense to keep an eye on, his size and speed are ridiculous(special teams?)! It would be crazy if he somehow fell to us...but theres always Cassel...

Without much research of any kind to be honest my early binkie would be:

Laurinaitis became a three-time AP All-American, and Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford and receiver Michael Crabtree joined him on the first team.

Ohio State has a history of great linebackers from Hawk to Spielman and Tom Cousineau to Randy Gradishar. Hawk and Spielman were both two-time AP All-Americans.

"When people throw my name in that group of players, I just laugh," Laurinaitis said. "It's extremely complimentary to be thought of in the same category."
Laurinaitis is a rare 3-timer

Everette Brown is one of my binkies for this draft, and he said he's coming out for the draft today. He'd be a perfect fit as an all-around 3-4 OLB to groom behind Vrabel and Thomas. With him and Woods, the depth would be excellent too. I'm also a fan of William Moore from Missouri, who I think will be the best safety to come out of this draft if he declares, George Selvie out of USF, Jason Smith out of Baylor (who I watched a bunch this year, since they were on TV all the time), Max Unger from Oregon and Brandon Spikes from Florida. I'd be happy if the Pats snagged a few of these guys, especially Moore and Brown.

with our 2 firsts, yes 2 after the Cassel trade, I want Brandon Spikes and Percy Harvin. Spikes is a beast and Harvin is yet anothe rplaymaker for our offense.

I also want a top notch RT to protect # 12.

2. Connor Barwin, DE/LB, Cincinnati - Vrabel-like versatility with more upside
3. Greg Hardy, DE/LB, Mississippi - could possibly be another Willie McG
4. DJ Moore, CB, Vanderbilt - may be best corner in the draft, great returner
5. William Moore, S, Missouri - FS/SS hybrid
6. Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida - would be great with Mayo at ILB

Spikes and Hardy haven't yet declared, but probably will.
