Channel 7 reporting tonight that Boston College has fired Jeff Jagodzinski for interviewing for the vacant Jets Head Coaching position.

This is unspeakably stupid. I'm dumbstruck, and I'm not even a BC fan. BC deserves everything that happens to them from this point on.

I'd heard they said they would. Weird indeed.

This sounds like the kind of situation where there were problems already, and this Jets interview was just the last straw. I think if things were going well, you wouldn't make a threat to fire someone just because they interviewed elsewhere --- rather you would try hard to keep that person.

BC student here. This is pretty ridiculous, but there were definitely issues between the school administration and Coach Jagodzinski.

Also BC student here. I'm saddened that Jags is gone, but I think the team will be in good hands with Steve Logan. If he got fired, there has to be more to this than has been let on.

Mind-numbingly stupid... BC sure got back at their face by biting off that pesky nose...

Well, with all the talk aobut football kharma lately, BC might be in for a rough time.

What I don't understand is that his contract said he couldn't take an NFL job. He didn't. All he did was interview for one. Shouldn't they have waited until he took it?

Well, it's BC's team. Maybe they belong to the Matt Millen school of football management.

You mean BC should have waited to fire him until after he took another job?
That would be a last straw.

Wow, Steve Logan, dude used to be me neighbor back when he coached ECU. He never really liked the town of Greenville, and towards the end of his tenure he had some really bad seasons, in fact ECU ended up breaking Duke's losing streak in college football under his coaching. I was wondering where he had ended up though I had no idea he was with BC now.

Does anyone think he might have got fired for pulling a Tuna and focusing more on a new job than his bowl game ?
The info in the papers yesterday about whether he was contacted or not was very conflicting. It made me confused. I hope someone can straighten this all out.

REPORT: “IT’S OVER” FOR JAGODZINSKI
Posted by Mike Florio on January 5, 2009, 11:22 a.m. EST
Dan Patrick, who might or might not be transmogrifying into a college football reporter, reports that Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski is out, based on his decision to interview for the current head-coaching vacancy with the New York Jets.

On Sunday night, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Jagodzinski had been threatened with termination if he went through with the interview.

Patrick, citing an unnamed source, had said that Jagodzinski would interview for the Jets job on Monday night and Tuesday, despite the threat of termination.

The next question becomes whether Jagodzinksi is entitled to the balance of his contract at Boston College.

Our guess is that, unless interviewing for the Jets job constitutes “cause” for firing him, the Eagles will be on the hook for the rest of the money.

The school likely will be reduced by Jagodzinski’s salary from his next coaching job. And if he gets the job in New York, he likely will make even more money.

what a weird situation.

Well I am at East Carolina University where Steve Logan used to coach, and I can tell you that he is a great coach and a hell of a guy! BC will have no regrets with him as their head coach.

Seems Jags has had his fill of college ball.
Funny how some quickly ditch their Pro job for a college job and vice versa.

Typical of the Jets for non-originality: Coughlin coached at BC so that means Jags will also bring the Jets a SB. Jagodzinski and O'Brien were solid B coaches and nothing more. They'll probably go with a lifer like Frank S., the Defensive coord. for the replacement, and hope he will not be a disaster like Dan Henning.

Looks like he is gone either way, but if they fire him before he gets a job with the Jets, BC could be on the hook for the balance of his whole contract, plus collecting an NFL salary. If he gets the Jets job, while still not being fired, BC will not have to pay balance of contract. If he interviews and doesn't get the Jets job, he gets fired and they settle or go to court over the balance of the contract. Looks like a cat and mouse game, but clearly BC does not gain anything by firing him too soon.

What a stupid situation, one that I'm already sick of hearing about it on the radio. I'm not really sure where BC gets off, this kind of thing happens a lot amongst coaches, there probably is more to the story, but as it is, BC looks pretty silly to me, basically complaining about a status quo that everyone else acknowledges.

I think it's impressive for them standing up to him, telling him to take a hike for going behind their backs
