Yea, this was his coming out party. SD fans have known for years that he is the best punter in the league; he's just never had a prime time game like this for the whole country to see how good he is.

He got on Madden's horse trailer with Sproles....

this is one reason why we been pissed off at his pro bowl snubbings the past few years

but lechler's a really good punter too

BB must be drooling:D He LOVES his field position and 1-2 years ago(?) BB had a revolving door of punters coming in for workouts. If BB had a choice between Sproles and Scifres he'd take the punter imho.

If Belichick liked Punters so much he would actually invest in one like he did with Gostkowski. It's one of the things I'll never understand, why we just have a trail of journeyman punters - although Miller was good for a while. We need to find a good punter in college, draft him and be done with this.

I know-I totally get his desire for a money-punter but we seem to keep throwing them against a wall hoping one will stick. I DO think BB likes punters but he's apparently not willing to give up a whole lot to get one. Hansen makes my palms sweat

I'm guessing Ernie Adams has some stat somewhere which de-values Punters. I don't see any other explanation for a coach who loves special teams, defense and field position.

We'll blame Ernie:D
I'd never second guess our FO but just imagine awesome punts falling into the hands of Wes or Hobbs. Hobbs has been around a long time and giving him a position edge would help him out.

Thats was certainly one of best games I've seen a punter have.

No lie, I would give up a 3rd rounder for this guy.

The guy is a game changer and without his performance I don't see SD staying close let alone winning that game.

Scifres was NASTY! He changed the whole game. Without him I don't think the Bolts win. That said, I don't watch SD enough to know if he does this regularly or just had an outstanding game last night. Perhaps one of the resident Charger trolls can she some light on that?

They guy was awesome. On the last one that went out of bounds they showed him afterwards with his chin strap kind of hiding his mouth, but you could still see the biggest most genuine smile I have ever seen on an NFL player. His team was still down by 3, but he knew he had just given them the greatest chance to win the game. Great moment.

Yea, he does this all the time. He's just never had a game in prime time in which punting was so important. If we're on our 20, it's not unusual for him to kick a 65+ yard point like he did last night with a 67 yarder that pinned the colts behind their own 10 yard line. He's also perfected a technique to get the ball to bounce backwards so as to keep it out of their endzone and avoid the touch back.

I got one for you.. Anyone catch the Florida State punter Graham Gano? He was named the MVP in their bowl game against Wisconsin last week (when's the last time you saw that?).. I saw it in a bar.. His first 3 punts went out inside the 5 yard line.. Two were coffin corner, which we NEVER SEE anymore.. the 3rd one hit and backed up on the 1 yard line, like a sand wedge.. I agree, the art of punting has gone into the crapper!

4th and 9 at WIS 49 Graham Gano punt for 46 yards out-of-bounds at the 3.
4th and 10 at WIS 45 Graham Gano punt for 44 yards, downed at the Wisc 1.
4th and 7 at WIS 46 Graham Gano punt for 45 yards out-of-bounds at the 1
4th and 16 at FSU 24 Graham Gano punt for 48 yards, fair catch by David Gilreath at the Wisc 28.
4th and 13 at FSU 38 Graham Gano punt for 58 yards, returned by David Gilreath for 3 yards to the Wisc 7.

Totals for the game:
5 punts, 4 inside the 20, avg 48.2, long of 58, NO touchbacks, and a total of THREE return yards..

One more.. Gano is a FG kicker as well.. made 24-of-26 this year, including 5-of-7 from 50+.. wow..

Hope BB is reading this!! Gano is a senior

Gotta love a place where you can come and discuss the finer points of punting. Scifres was incredible last night, I wish the Pats had the same secret weapon.
