WRs to Watch

Though I don't believe that WR is a NEED, I can acknowledge that the Patriots have to look long term as well as short. And I can acknowledge that Moss isn't going to be here but a couple more years and the Pats could use someone to complement him and then take over the #1 position. And that by drafting that person now, that person can develop without a lot of pressure.

So, other than Briz's binkie, Maclin, who will be the highest rated WR if/when he declares, who else is out there?

I have a couple players that I'd like more information on:
Darius Passmore - Marshall (said to have run a sub 4.3 on grass)
Barden Ramses - Cal
Quan Cosby - Texas
Darrius Hayward-Bey - Maryland (Junior - yet to declare)
Hakeem Nicks - NC (Junior - yet to declare)
Kenny Britt - Rutgers (Junior - yet to declare)
Mike Wallace - Miss
Marko Mitchell - Nevada

If that Darrius Hayward-Bey - Maryland kid runs 4.40 or 4.45 at 6'3 - 206lbs i think he would give Maclin a run for the First WR off the board. Maryland is not known for their Good QB's in recent years. So you have to think his final numbers suffered some due to that. If Darrius Hayward-Bey does the things listed above he'll be heads and shoulders above the rest in the measurables deparment and on that me be worth the risk/reward factor.

I'd love it if Nicks somehow ends up here. That kid is going to be a beast in the NFL for years to come (barring injury, of course).

I'd add Juaquin Iglesias from Oklahoma to the list. I think he would most likely go in like the late 2nd to early 3rd round, and would be a good value I think. He is shifty, with good speed (runs 4.4 - 4.49) and great hands. He can really make things happen after he gets the ball with his great vision. Not your Moss stretch the field player, but would be an excellent #2 compliment as he is kinda a mix between Welker and Moss in style (Not saying he is as good as these guys cause he is not right now)

Massaquoi from Georgia could be a really good possession receiver in the NFL. Let's not forget that Percy Harvin may also declare for the draft and I personally think he'll buck the Florida wide receiver trend.

Dominick Goodman and Marty Gilyard of Cincinnati.

Goodman is an excellent possession receiver with some speed and quicks whom I think could replace Gaffney. Gilyard is a big play kid whom I would love to see get some schooling from Randy.

Hayward-Bey has star potential in the NFL. His lack of production was purely the result of poor/inconsistent QB play and poor play calling. He was a track star in HS and runs a legit 4.40. His speed also translates well on the field...

FWIW, I really like Jordan Shipley from Texas. However, he was recently granted an extra year of eligibility, so he probably won't be coming out...

Huge fan of that kid Juaquin Iglesias he looks like a Bigger version of Terry Glenn without the bad attitude. I would Trade up in the Second Round if push comes to shove just to grab him. Another WR i like is Ohio States WR Brian Robiskie who's final numbers might be affected by how well they run at Columbus Ohio. Brian Robiskie seems like a perfect complimentary #2 WR. Ohio States WR's seem to transition very well in the Pros ie...Santonio Holmes (Steelers) and Anthony Gonzalez (Colts) off that i think the prospects are good for Brian Robiskie succeeding.

I'd add LSU's Demetrius Byrd as a mid round pick to that group. He's a strong athletic player that could rise after getting timed. His times are all over the board right now anywhere from 4.39-4.58. He looks like a player that could be a good #2 to me.

Cooney has some good things to say that warrant keeping an eye on him. I'd say he has good hands but there's red flag of short-arming there too in traffic. He doesn't say anything about routes though. Another name to keep in the folder is all right now, there's some film of him you can check out at youtube.

North Carolina junior Hakeem Nicks has announced he will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft. The 6-0, 210-pound Nicks set UNC single-season records in 2008 with over 1,200 receiving yards and 12 Tds.

Lot of interesting talent coming out of Cincinnati this year. But isn't Gilyard a Jr.? Any word that he's coming out?

He is, and I actually expect him to return, but we can dream. Interesting, but NFLDS has Goodman at #49...

NFL Draft Scout has Nicks as their #1 WR this morning, bumping Iglasias back a notch, what's interesting is they rate both Nicks and Iglasias as borderline 1-2 prospects...which pushes a kid like Robiskie down to borderline 2-3...and Crabtree & Maclin haven't announced their intentions yet.

Anyone know anything about Mississippi's Mike Wallace? For those lusting after speed he's a cheap investment in the late rounds...

i like Hakeem Nicks the best, i think his speed is underrated, his agility and running ability are very good, good size, route running, strength, hands, and he's a playmaker. Cosby also looked very good vs. Ohio State.
