If Cassel is franchised, which teams are on the "no-trade" list?

Obviously, the JEST. And I'd also say that Kansas City is probably on BB's #@#% list right now, too.

Edit: Just to clarify, by no trade, I mean that the Patriots would not willingly agree to trade him, and would force that team to cough up two firsts for Cassel. If they franchise him, any team willing to pay two firsts can have him.

If Bledsoe's deal is evidence, and I know the two are not that similar, than no one is on the no trade list as long as the compensation is right (persumably a rival would need much better compensation and I assumed the Bills did in Drew's case). Two key differences here are age and potentially what they think of both as QBs while I am not trying to confirm or deny but the perception was when we traded Drew we did not fear him and that may or may not be true of Cassel.

Anyway, I imagine Belichick will just tell him that if he reaches a deal with an AFC East team that we won't negotiate a trade and they'd have to sign him at the two #1 pick rate. He may tell Cassel that we would take less (thus make it easier to get a deal done) if he leaves the conference but I doubt it.

Is it possible to have a formal agreement not to Franchise him on the condition he leaves the division ? Although I wouldn't be in favor of it that's the only conceivable way he's not Franchised with the Jets needing a QB.

This is correct. The part of the equation that we don't really know is how highly BB rates Cassel. Maybe he agrees with some pundits that Cassel is smoke and mirrors, a pure system QB. If that's the case, he'd gladly **** the Jests by sticking them with a big Cassel contract.

They probably know more about his weaknesses than they do about any other QB. Wouldn't you WANT to face a kid twice a year knowing that you can do certain things and be successful against him?
That being said the Fins or the JEST would probably have to outbid a team from outside the conference.

Seriously, wouldn't you try your best to get Cassell to an NFC team? San Francisco seems like it would be a good place for him to land, as would the Lions, but I don't know if BB would do that to him.

I don't think he'd go anywhere in the AFC East, and if he does (ala Bledsoe) that means that BB thinks he can exploit his weaknesses and that he can't hurt us. I would bet that the only team on the "absolutely, positiviely no trade" list is the Jets, and maybe Miami.

I don't know. The blood is too bad. Even if it would help us, I don't think BB would give the Jets one ounce of assistance in improving their QB position, unless he knew Cassell had some fatal flaw and thus it could be exploited, not only by us, but by others. Then BB would have their draft picks and the last laugh. I don't think Cassell has that kind of flaw, though.

i have a hard time seeing them trade him to any team in the AFC and strengthen a rival for the Conference Championship. They certainly wouldn't trade him within the Division. There are, however, so many likely trading partners in the NFC that I think he'll end up there.

I disagree. It's not weak-sauce, just smart business. Why would you want to strengthen a team that you have to face twice a year? I think it's unlikely that they'd trade him anywhere in the Conference, especially since there are multiple NFC teams that need help at QB (or that might decide they need help if Matt is available to them).

Problem with the Lions is, if you think we can get a 1st round pick, I'm not sure the Pats want the #1 overall. It's high risk, high money, and almost impossible to trade out of these days. I see them shooting for someone in the San Fran range, where it's a pick around 10. Much more manageable, and maybe they can get another player like Mayo
