The blockbuster of the coaching season just came in: The Denver Broncos fired Mike Shanahan.

Shanahan had three years and upwards of $20 million remaining on his contract.

Shanahan was the longest tenured coach in Broncos franchise history.

Not a lot of people saw that coming, even with the epic collapse.

Pretty amazing move on the surface, but not when considering his team's performance over the last few seasons.

He was fired with years remaining on his contract, which means he's being bought out. Wouldn't surprise me if he takes a year off, at least, vs. jumping right into another job. I'm hoping both he and Cowher pass on the Green Beans.

Jets want Cowher. Why? Because Cowher will sell the expensive PSLs for the new stadium that are presently going begging. Woody Johnson will pay really BIG bucks for a name HC.

Along the same lines that's why Cassel will NOT go to the Jets. Favre is a big name. Sells seats. And yes, Jets fans ARE football ignorant.

I'd say, if Kansas City gets their head out of their ass and fires Herm, Shanahan would be a great fit there.
