Looking here 2009 NFL Free Agents, who can you envision wearing the Patriots jersey and doing well?

At QB I would love to have Jeff Garcia come here, the guy would be an extremely solid replacement should Brady's recovery take longer than expected (assuming Cassel is gone of course), and I'm pretty sure at this point in his career he just wants a chance to compete for a ring, I would also look at Kerry Collins should he decide to leave Tennessee

At RB Darren Sproles (who has been mentioned before by other posters) would be GREAT here, he could be the primary return man, thus taking the load off Hobbs who really shouldn't be back there (don't get me wrong, he's an excellent returner, but he's also our most reliable corner), and also be a great third down back (he had 5 receiving TD's this past season, and averaged 5.4 yards per carry), also I feel JJ Arrington could succeed here, he's never had an offensive line, but I have definently seen some flashes of real talent, in limited time he averaged 6 yards per carry, and has also shown he can catch the ball

At WR/TE, I would take a flyer on either Leonard Pope or LJ Smith and see if they can emerge in the Pats offense, if the Texans let him go Owen Daniels would be fantastic here, he's truly a do-it-all guy, Devery Henderson would strech the field nicely and open up things even more for our underneath receivers, Amani Toomer, if he leaves the Giants, would be a great veteran presence on the team as well as a solid receiver, from a purely blocking standpoint, Jim Kleinsasser could be used as a 6th offensive lineman, the guy is massive

Looking at the O-line, we're pretty solid, but we could use a starting LT, moving Light to RT, and some youth to start being groomed as replacements as the line gets older;

On the DL I would really like to bring Chris Canty in here... he played well for the Cowboys, and still has some potential

Looking at LB's, Mike Peterson, who has been a problem in Jacksonville, and is a little undersized, still has some good season left in him (IMHO) and he could teach Mayo and Guyton a little something when it comes to coverage... I'm positive he would come here for cheap, and I think he would be great.. Bart Scott would be worth taking a flyer on to see if he can regain his 2006 form where he was one of the 5 best LB's in the league.. The Ravens are going to have to pay Lewis, and Scott might be the odd man out; Angelo Crowell has played primarily in a 4-3 base D his whole career, but he has the size and skill to convert to a 2 gap system, and he might be on bad terms with the Bills after they screwed him on the whole IR thing; last but not least, it'd be great to have big Willie back

In the secondary, Dunta Robinson is a great corner, and will want to land on a winning team after being stuck in Houston his whole career, Chris Gamble will probably be franchised, but at the same time the Panthers may not cough up the money as the have Richard Marshall waiting to play; Sean Jones would add a whole new dimenson to our backfield, he has the size (6'1 220) to play in the box, and the ball skills (14 career picks) to be in coverage, he also might be franchised; Darren Sharper would also be great here, he's a ballhawk with 54 career picks, and the Vikings might let him go as they drafted Tyrell Johnson last year

Re: Your Free Agent Wish List...

While I know it is a wish list (much like a Christmas list for a child), all of us have to remember that we have a lot of our own talent that we need to sign to extensions before their contracts come up at the end of next season. I am reserving myself that this may not be the FA bonanza that all of us hope for every March. I see some 2nd tier FA additions with some of our others getting inked to long term deals. Great for Gostowski to make the Pro Bowl but that will also factor into his resigning next year.

Re: Your Free Agent Wish List...

Angelo Crowell is near the top of my wish list. I'm not smart enough to say he'll definitely succesfully convert into a 3-4 OLB, but he's one of the best relatively unknown players in the league. If BB believes he can make the switch they should be all over him

I'll be pleasantly surprised if Asomugha is an option. I expect some team to ignore Dunta Robinson's injury concerns, and price him out of reach. Jabari Greer is a really interesting up and coming name.

I love Shaun McDonald.

Two Bills and a Lion. Maybe I shouldn't have a say.

Re: Your Free Agent Wish List...

No way on Garcia. He has a tremendous ego and wouldn't settle for being anything less than being the starter. I'm guessing the Pats stay in-house with the QB's they have now. Brady, O'Connell, and Gutierrez (and of course Cassel until they trade him).

I would love Sproles to join this team. Same with Owen Daniels. How about Jonathan Vilma? The guy on that list I want more than anyone is Nnamdi Asomugha.

Re: Your Free Agent Wish List...

Here is my free agent wish list.

On offense Larry Johnson, Tony Gonzalez, and Deon Branch (should he be let go). I don't think the offense needs anything but one splash would be good to keep this from getting stagnant and it doesn't have to be as big as I noted above.

On Defense DBs, DBs, DBs....obviously Asmougha, Robinson, or Gamble would be awsome. Sharper would be intriguing though I think he has clearly lost a few steps. I'ld perfer to have Rodney back and draft another safety than bring someone else in but that may be pie in the sky.

I really think getting one of those 3 corners should be the priority of this offseason anything else can be filled thru the draft and the rest of the money can be used on your own guys.

Re: Your Free Agent Wish List...

oh yeah and Adam Seward.

Re: Your Free Agent Wish List...

OLB terrell suggs, WR shaun macdonald, S dawan landry, TE will heller, OL mark tauscher

Re: Your Free Agent Wish List...

Nnamdi Asomugha, UFA
Mike Brown, UFA, Chicago Bears
Brian Dawkins, UFA, Philadelphia Eagles
Dawan Landry, RFA, Baltimore Ravens
Dunta Robinson, UFA, Houston Texans

any combo of these guys and just go young via the draft by trading Cassell and getting an additional 1st round. Plus we have 2 second round picks... and 2 thirds..

Re: Your Free Agent Wish List...

Chris Gamble just signed a HUGE contract halfway though the season so he is out of the picture.

Nnamdi Asomugha all i gota to say...Bill throw at him more than anyone else this year and i feel that was test.

Re: Your free agent wishlist...

Diddo on Mike Brown. Hard hitter and very underrated. My wish list:

Darren Sproles, Mike Brown, Terrell Suggs, Willis McGahee (should he not be resigned), and Nnamdi Asomugha. Sproles is the guy I would most like to see on this team. What a weapon he would be in our offense!

My free agent wish list

UFA'a
Wright
Hochstein
Paxton
Evans
Lew Sanders
Colvin
Jordan
Gaffney

RFA's
Woods
Britt

Re: Your free agent wishlist...

Here's the list of players who are FAs this year (*-starters):

S
Rodney Harrison*,J Sanders*,Ventrone,Spann
DL
mike wright
WR
gaffney
CB
Deltha O'Neal,L Sanders,Richardson
OL
Hochstein,Paxton,Britt,Levoir,Connolly
RB
Evans*,Jordan
P
Hanson*
QB
Cassel*,Gutz
LB
Alexander,Woods*,Seau*,Redd,Colvin*
TE
Devree

The biggest position losses are S, FB, P, and LS. Resigning Evans seems like a no-brainer. Hochstein as well. Paxton did another fine job this year, so he should be back. That leaves the biggest holes at Safety and Punter.

Resigning James Sanders seems like a good idea as he will come cheap has starting ability, but there is still need for another safety incase Harrison doesn't come back. From that list Dawkins looks like a good option, but I can't see him leaving Philadelphia. Next would be Mike Brown who has good experience and production to back it up. You could even put Lawyer Milloy in the mix.

For punters, Hanson could very well come back unless BB wants to upgrade. He saw Lechler in Oakland this year and may have been impressed, otherwise the next best option is to draft or sign a UDFA to battle it out with Hanson.

The rest of the positions are 2nd and 3rd stringers, which will probably end up being low risk high reward type signings. Keep in mind that next year we will be losing 10 starters so chances are the FA money will be saved for one more year while trying to resign current players in case the salary cap era continues.

Your list is much more realistic. If you want to spend a little

more money, extend Wilfork or Mankins.

i like sproles too, but there is no way that we bring in another RB...we have maroney, faulk, sammy, evans, BJ signed through next year i believe...if we bring anyone else back, itll be jordan i believe, or another power back like him...

i dont know non-big name players, so asomugha and suggs would do it for me ;)

Re: Your free agent wishlist...

Karlos Dansby
Terrell Suggs

Re: Your free agent wishlist...

2009 NFL Free Agency

Do you guys see any good players out there that won't be franchised that may be a good fit for the patriots?

I understand that Brian Dawkins and John Runyan are UFA. not sure if the eagles are going to slap the tag on either of them. I'd think both would be great for the patriots. Runyan seems to be the brainy OL that BB likes, but like Matt LIght he can be beaten by some of the better pass rushers in the league. I love Dawkins. He and Merriweather would make a great pair. also, Tra Thomas and Jordan Gross are set to be UFAs.

also, i hear that John Clayton thinks Larry Johnson is going to be a pat.

2009 NFL Free Agents: DB

darn. i didn't know a thread was started on this.

Re: Your free agent wishlist...

i can't believe no one is talking about the OL. there are some good ones out there like Jordan Gross, Mark Tauscher and John Runyan and Tra Thomas.

I like brian dawkins at safety.

OLB - I cannot preach it enough. We're not doing anything on defense no matter who we bring in until this defense chages. Wether it be by adding a beast on the edge or a change in scheme, somehow someway it needs to be done folks. I realllllllly REALLLLLLLLLLLY want suggs. Scott or Suggs, but Suggs.

ILB - I think you need a 3rd body in there.

CB- We need depth. I wouldn't go into this season expecting starers not named Ellis Hobbs and Johnathon Wilhite. Why? Because if we bring in a CB, along with our re-signings and rookie signings, we'll have little to no money to add anything more. We're better off depending on solid corners with a good pass rush than the other way around.

OL - we need to get bigger and stronger in the middle.

SS - Sean Jones from Cleveland anybody? Dude played ina similar scheme, has good numbers, whats not to like? I think he'd be an upgrade over the current set up..

Those are my most wanted moves.
