Coaching News: Browns to interview Mangini

If they're hiring Mangini I really can't see Pioli going there...

Perhaps continued mediocrity is what the Browns are looking for and maybe this dissuades Pioli from leaving.

I don't know.. Other than Bill Cowher, who are the real gems out there as far as coaching names are concerned? There's only so many great coaches in the league, and those guys tend to stay gainfully employed.

Awesome, keep another AFC team out of contention and further tarnish the legacy that is Eric Mangini.

I think Mangini's sentence has been served. Public derision, firing, etc...

Odds are those hard lessons have been good for him. Perhaps he'll do well, and I wouldn't begrudge him of it.

there is speculation that if Pioli goes to cleveland, McDaniels will be the head coach and Mangini the defensive coordinator.
Romeo may be a special defensive consultant for the browns.

Jason Garrett, Spagnualo, McDaniles, Cowher are the top 4 i think...

this is good news guys, if mangini is there, Pioli WONT be

I'll begrudge him enough for both of us.....;)

Well, I still hate the guy. That said, my dislike of him doesn't necessarily mean he's as awful a coach as we wish he was. I still think he could be a good NFL head coach one day, I just don't think he was nearly ready for prime time.

Some who's been a perennial doormat would be well-served to bring Marty Shottenheimer in.

I'd hire Marty in a second if my team sucked. He hasn't won the big one (although it's debatable how much "The Fumble" in Cleveland and "The Fumble" caused by Troy Brown were his fault) but at least he gets to big games.

As the saying goes, with Schottenhimer you can't win the big one; but when he leaves you can't win the little ones.

I don't think he was straight terrible in NY. I think to hire him right now is a mistake. Lets him sit back as a DC the next couple years becoming a better, older coach and then I might look at him.

Shouldn't they be interviewing potential GM's first, and then after he's hired get his input in to the hiring of the coach?

Who is this fellow, "Eric Mangini"? I seem to recall a certain Tubby Ratfink who once coached the New Jersey Green Beans. Is that who Cleveland is interested in?

Wasn't Cleveland the franchise that didn't think Bill Belichick was a very good coach ? In that light this move makes perfect sense !

Exactly. What kind of maroon interviews for his head coach and THEN for his GM?

Lerner is afraid that the GM will hire the guy the GM feels is best, and obviously that isn't okay with Lerner. Lerner wants HIS guy to be coach.

Browns are on the way to joining the Bengals, Lions, and Cardinals as perennial losers.

They should hire Mangini and then Piloli so that Pioli will have the pleasure of firing him.
