Matt Cassel was a great stroy, and its a shame that he cant show his stuff in the playoffs.. But This is Tom Brady's pats.. I just wish he would come out and say how he really is, instead of all this nonsense...Sorry I dont like peter king, even though he has his sources.. Tom Brady deserves better than to see another season disappear... If Tom Brady does not play in 09, its a very good bet that his Pats carrer will come to a abrupt hault, not to mention his football carrer.. The next 2 months will be very long and hard to swallow ,because we could see Pioli , Mcdaniels all bolt, and then wait on the whole tom brady knee issuie..

There is nothing more I want for the Pats , to see Tom Brady come back healthy and better than ever.. To see a fraud team like Miami win the East is assinine.. We were the better team, and not having Tom Brady in that first game ,until Matt Cassel got his sea legs, was the game that cost us..

But no crying over spilt milk. 08 is over, and it was a great job by Belichick, and matt cassel did some nice things.. No offense to Matt, I want Tom Brady under center for the pats.. Healthy and happy new year tom...

That game was a defensive fiasco.....they lose that game with or without Brady.

Correction: THIS IS BB'S TEAM, IMHO of course. :)

In line with this thread.

Thanks Matt for all your effort this year. You salvaged what we all thought was a lost season. But please, please, please let the next Patriot game be with Brady behind center.

Good luck Matt. The pats gave you an oppertunity to cash in and we'll take the 1st and a 3rd in return. Sounds like an a good deal for both. And take is as a complement that BB won't trade you within the division as he did with another NE QB.

Dont start bidding him farewell so soon. No one knows when Brady will be back. MC might be under center come Sept, just saying.

Well, if ESPN's crawl line last night and their article has any merit, Brady may not be ready to play for the first or even maybe most of next season.

Seems like the hedge play for the Patriots would be to franchise Cassel and then work some kind of deal if Brady's progress is truly satisfactory.

It may also depend on their evaluation of their chances next year to win the division PLUS their evaluation of O'Connell.

It's clearly still Tom Brady's team and his job...anyone who says otherwise is a reactionary fool. With the same offensive squad--add in Stallworth an sometimes Maroney--Brady set records that might not be touched for decades. I like Cassel, he's proven to be much, much better than I ever imagined (and I was actually one of the few who thought he'd be decent), but Tom Brady he is not nor ever will be.

Franchise Cassel, trade him for picks, and wish him the best of luck on his way out the door. I'm sure, regardless of the outcome, he'll be cheered any time he comes back to Foxboro.

Its Brady's team and job...when he is healthy. Lets hope the reports are false, otherwise we need to keep Cassel.

The rumors about Brady's knee scare the crap out of me. The remote idea that we could have seen his last game in a Pats uniform and not even have known it at the time is depressing to say the least.

The NFL is a business, as the Lawyer Milloy saga reminded all of us. As did the decisions of Willie and Adam and Deion and Ty and Asante and...

So, ultimately, This is Bob Kraft's team. His signature is on every check and his signature is on the lease for the Stadium and surrounding properties.

After that, I think it's Bill Belichick's team. The team plays his system and by his rules. Tom Brady and Matt Cassel both flourished in that system and with those rules.

On the field, I'd like to agree that it's Tom Brady's team. But, in the business of the modern NFL, the team belongs to the leader who can best help the team win and thereby help every individual player maximize his own professional and economic potential in the NFL. If Tom can come back at full capacity, he's that guy. If he can't, Matt has shown what he can do.

I know that sounds coldhearted and believe me it's not what I "feel." My kids have worn Number 12's jersey since they were toddlers. But, I do think it's the truth.
