The football Gods did everything to prevent the Pats from getting into the playoffs and even after a valiant 11-5 season, it wasn't enough to get in. I have never seen so much working against a team who got to 11-5 and still didn't get into the playoffs.

Good, now start putting teeth under your pillow and write letters to Santa every year too while you are at it. Don't break and mirrors or go under any ladders and especially don't step on any cracks as it will break your mother's back and you don't want that do you?

We've been cursed for the past 4 seasons. Each ending has been almost equally gut wrenching. I thought not having Brady would lighten the pressure this year, but going 11-5 and not making the playoffs is just another amazing heartbreak.

Curse? It's only been one season and there is no curse. Get over it. We didn't get in but at least we had a good run.

Well considering the curse is that the Super Bowl loser fails to make the playoffs the following year, how many years should I wait until I accept the Pats didn't make the playoffs THIS YEAR? At least the Pats are playing in the playoffs next week in denial world.

I officially believe in losing out in games due to poor execution and lack of discipline in key moments.

The Belichick mantra is to replace one missing part with another and the expectation to do your job, no matter who is surrounding you.

Sure the injuries were a key part in the cog, but the dropped catches, the failed plays, defensive meltdowns and the unnecessary penalties contributed to us missing the playoffs, not some stupid "curse".

This season has proven that with good coaching and the right system, you can win with almost any players out there give a good game plan and good execution. For 5 games, we didn't and that's why we have lost out.

Well done to Chad Pennington and the Dolphins. It's a great "human" interest story with his predicament before the first game of the season. I'm sure the Ravens had a collective sigh when Lord Favrequad decided to give the Fins 3 possessions.

Be proud of the team and be prepared for the onslaught of a healthy and hungry Patriots team in 2009.

as the superbowl curse tradition refers to the notion that most teams have a LOSING season the year after losing the SB, the Patriot season actual broke with the curse.

Well, that is part of it. Granted unless you are in the NFC West, you typically cannot win the division with a losing record.

To cut Rob a little bit of slack I kind of took this one as a tongue-in-cheek comment. It is amazing to see that an 11-5 season leaves them on the outside looking in. It's disappointing. I would have liked to see how Cassel performed in the playoffs. Considering that the team was playing well at the right time, who knows what could have happened :explative

Couldn't have said it any better.

I'm proud of how the team responded to all the adversity and injuries thrown their way, but realistically this team should have had a better record and a few key breakdowns cost them games that are the reason we're on the outside looking in.

What is damning is that Super Bowl losers this decade have had a lot of trouble making it back to even the Conference finals round. I can't think of one team that has done that. Perhaps Tennessee and Carolina will do it. That would be a nice Super Bowl you can go to for the price of a NASCAR race.

We set a new record by winning the Super Bowl two years in a row. I guess it's good we did not set the one for losing the Super Bowl two years in a row (or is that already a record by the Bills?) That would suck. :)

Yeah, and black cats walking in front of you and walking under ladders will kill you...please...

jeez, I say this half jokingly and people get all defensive. I do think everything worked against the Pats all year, but is there really a curse? I didn't really believe in it before the season, and I don't really believe in it now.

It just seems a whole host of coincidences that have befallen the Pats this year the year after they lost the Super Bowl. For example they lose their best offensive and defensive players (along with a lot of other key players) and they are the first team since 1985 and 1967 before that to miss the playoffs with 11 wins.

Huh?? green bay did it, Miami, Pittsburgh twice, Dallas,SF also. and probably more. Dallas like NE won 3/4....
