I know this is a draft forum but free agency is also highly relevant to the final roster. I plan to create a series of threads for each position.

Post names of players that you like or you think the Pats may have an interest in. Do your homework please, it is pretty easy to tell if a player will be a free agent, I use this site but I am sure there are others, Rotoworld.com

Here are some WR names to watch, they are not necessarily realistic but may be available in one way or another.

For WR the player would be in competition for the 3rd or 4th spot.

Torry Holt - Not in his prime but as a 3rd WR, pretty damn good (Not a FA but I expect the Rams to cut him)
  • Chad Johnson - Oinko Whatever - Good player, bad brain, stranger things have happened.
  • Hank Bassett (Eagles) - RFA - Big WR, lots of potential.
  • Antonio Bryant (Tampa)
  • Devery Henderson
  • Lance Moore
  • Jabar Gaffney

Asked if he wanted to return to the Rams in 2009, Torry Holt said, "No comment."

Uh oh. Holt also said "no comment" when asked if he thought he would be back. Holt certainly isn't worth his $6.65 million salary next season, so a divorce makes sense for both sides. Sunday could be Holt's last game in front of the home crowd. The Rams must also make tough calls on Leonard Little and Orlando Pace.

If the Pats have Moss and Welker locked up till 2011-2012, would Holt or Ocho want to come to play for the Pats? Also, I want to express how sad it was for Gafney to lose Brady in game one. I bet he thought he could put some numbers together in his one year contract and bolt for a Stallworth contract elsewhere.

If Gaffney doesn't re-sign, I like the following names:

Bobby Engram
Brandon Jones
Nate Washington
Robert Ferguson
Greg Camarillo RFA

I figure Kelley Washington, Aiken and Slater will still be slotted as WRs next year.

I don't know how much Holt has left, but it would seem like as a third wide out, he would be very good.

we are set at #1 and #2..........for cost-effectiveness if they decide to stray from gaffney:

shaun macdonald
brandon jones
roscoe parrish
reggie williams

Baskett is terrible. Lapses in judgement while playing at New Mexico.

I would love to see Gaffney as a 4th wr.

Holt will almost surely end up in Carolina, where he grew up and to play with his brother.

My preference for value at the #3 position is to re-sign Jabar Gaffney. I agree that Washington and Aiken are slated in as #4 and #5.

Some one mentioned Slater. He is not on the team to play WR or, for that matter, to be a returner. Slater and Ventrone are special teamers almost exclusively. So, we end up with seven "wide receiver" roster spots.

I think Holt will be a #1 or #2 for someone. A top receiver just isn't worth as much to us as to others. We already have Moss and Welker.

Camarillo was signed to a contract extension already.

No thanks on Nate Washington or Robert Ferguson.

My list includes the under-rated Bryant Johnson and Shaun McDonald.

Also, forget about Warren's assessment of Baskett. He's been a very good WR for the Eagles. Warren seems to forget that people change..

Another name sure to stir the soul.. Deion Branch. The club has an option ($4.5 M~), likely the exercise the option but there is some chance he could hit the street.

Bobby Engram is an interesting case. He got off to a slow start due to a pretty severe injury, but he's a Pro's pro who the quarterback knows is going to be in the right spot at the right time, knows how to get open, and has very good hands. Unless he's completely lost his speed, I'd definitely bring him in. He's looked pretty good in the last two games.

Shaun McDonald has shown an ability to be a productive 3rd/4th WR when he's left one-on-one, but I think I'd rather have Gaffney.

I'd also love to pick up Darrius Hayward-Bey in the draft if he slips a little bit.

Is Hayward-Bey going to declare for the draft? He's only a junior and the only thing I've read is that he's considering his options. If he does declare, isn't he likely to be the top WR in the draft.

In this draft, so it would seem.

I have heard that agents are running around telling kids to enter the draft thisyear before the CBA is renegotiated. I suspect Bey will declare.

Provided he is fully recovered from the knee surgery, and does get cut, I would love to see Moss Welker and Branch as our starting 3 WRs next season.

I know I am a LSU Homer but I wouldn't mind Byrd from LSU.

Dvery Henderson is pefect fit for this Team he would do what Donte' Stallworth did in 2007 a stretch the Field type #2 WR. Look at his career average so far.

Devery Henderson: Career Stats

He doesn't catch alot but they are some huge gainers. Dvery Henderson would easily be the Fastest guy on our Team.
