TV announcers fall over themselves with praise for Brian Westbrook whenever they discuss the Eagles. The Patriots have a pretty good player as well who does pretty much the same thing: Kevin Faulk.

It's interesting to compare their stats. Westbrook is more productive on the ground, though Faulk has a higher yard percentage. But Kevin Faulk is more productive in the passing game. I think the stats are comparable.

These stats come from nfl.com.

Rushing
Brian Westbrook PHI RB 220 16.9 886 4.0
Kevin Faulk NE RB 83 5.9 507 6.1

Receiving
Kevin Faulk NE RB 57 478 8.4
Brian Westbrook PHI RB 46 319 6.9

Huge Faulk fan but he isn't in the same league as Westy.

Come on give Faulk more credit than that. I'ld say Westbrook is better but they are definitely in the same league........especially literally (NFL):D

Faulk has been one of my favorite Pats for the last couple of years but I think this is getting a little carried away.

what about the small RB on the jaguars, jones drew? He is a every down back and can catch the ball.

I would love to have Jones Drew.

I dont think it really is. He can do everything Westbrook can do outside of the number of carries. He is a poormans Westbrook. I think they are very comprable with the edge going to Westbrook easy.

Oh I agree with that, if you are going to go with the "mold" he's comparable to Westbrook since he is a good receiving RB, but to actually compare the two as somewhat equal is a stretch. Same with MJD who hasn't even had the chance to be an every down back yet.

He isn't an every down back though. I think for the last two games he has been since Taylor got injured but otherwise he normally only gets about 8 carries a game and then lines up as a receiver a bunch. It's an interesting comparison though, I think MJD will be an absolute stud if he ever gets a full load and a decent OL to run behind. The guy right now has been a solid RB in a RBBC that can do it all even with the Jags OLine basically falling apart this year. And MJD might be the best blocking RB in the league.

Westbrook is a feature back - teams game plan for him (see SB 39).
Faulk is a change of pace/third down back, teams try to account for him, but he's not the most critical element in the game plan.

Let's just be glad Kevin is part of the NE "system." ;)
