Do we really have that much faith in the Jets beating Miami??

That was a little different. The Packers had the playoffs locked and that game meant nothing to them. Ironically, that was the last time the Pats weren't in the playoffs.

Right. They were playing for the 2-seed, though, but had no interest. But that game only meant something to the Jets if the Pats won at 1. If Miami won, they would have clinched the division.

So if they wanted to put the Pats game at 4, that would be the same basic situation as 2002. That would be fair.

Given the embarassing loss, Mangini and the Jets will return home and knock off the Fins. IMO. :D

I am more concerned about us not losing focus against the Bills and completing this amazing season with a great W.

Glad that the Bills won because I would rather have us play them coming off a win vs. a close loss at home.

the refs will be told to do all they can to help favre.

I have zero faith in the Jets. Here is why:

1.) Poor coaching. We saw some of the bonehead mistakes Mangini calls today. The biggest has been his desire not to run the ball especially when the Jets had that surge in the middle of the year not on the arm of Favre, but the legs of Jones and Washington.
2.) The Jets defense has not been the same since Jenkins was injured in the Titans game.
3.) I think Favre is done and thinking more about heading back to Mississippi than playing his best. Granted he will have a change of heart in the offseason again.
My thoughts exactly. Favre feels bad for losing but this really isnt his team . Does he really care ? It was a PSL stunt anyway.
Mangini i honestly thought was a good secondary coach for us and was a decent HC but boy has his regressed all season.
Above all, jets have no passing game like SF like thigpen and the chiefs to really threaten miami and miami doesnt make stupid mistakes.
but conversly if miami lost and jets won today who would you have faith in winning next week jets or fins ? i would say jets then because they kinda own miami usually.
i just want us to win and knock the jets off at the least in any case.
EDIT:not to mention they have 6+ hr flight back which doesnt help.

really. Bills havent beaten us ina while so they will up for it anyway. The almost beat the jets and beat the broncos today. It will be a hard game for the pats. iIam hoping it stays at 1pm and doesnt move to 4pm for a loud crazy buffalo crowd.

Jest is 9-2 in non west coast games this year. Am I confident in them ? No. But it's absolutely realistic they could win. Very much so.

Given the close game, I feel that the Bills would have been pissed off had they lost today and could have more motivation to prove us a point.

But your point that they will be up for it since they have not beaten us for quite some time is well taken.

What I am hoping for is the removal of any extra motivation due to their W today :)

I, personally, have a TON of faith in the Jets winning this game. Why not? It's at home and they have owned Miami this decade. Besides, what REALLY good teams has Miami played and beaten, besides us? Going back to week 8:

BUF v. MIA: W 25-16
MIA at DEN: W 26-17
SEA at MIA: W 21-19
OAK at MIA: W 17-15
NE at MIA: L 28-48
MIA at STL: W 16-12
MIA at BUF: W 16-3
SF at MIA: W 14-9
MIA at KC: W 38-31

Miami has BARELY beaten the dregs of the NFL and their schedule is about as cake as it gets through 17 weeks. They are 10-5 but they aren't exactly the next coming of the '72 version of the team. They can easily go into New York next week and get their asses handed to them on a silver platter.

Of course nobody has faith in the Jets--when you have to rely on other teams, it sucks, but you want as many options as possible. So this is one more.

FWIW, the weather should be close to 50 degrees, so the old man that Favre has become who gets all cold and achy shouldn't make an appearance. Also, as much as everyone thinks Pennington will come on strong, I think it's at least as likely that going back to where he failed so often will make him fail again.

Years and years ago, the Jets would win, but the Pats would then lose. That's not the way anymore, though. So yeah, I think the Jets win, and the Pats win, and win the division. How about that.

50 degrees for real? Did you hear that some where?

I have no faith in the Jets in anything these days. So I think Miami will go to New York and win the division outright. No way Jacksonville beats the Ravens next week. So I guess it was a nice season for the Patriots considering the circumstances.

Checked the weather. Granted, you can't trust it so far out, but it's looking that way. I know typically you'd want it cold for miami, but the cold in kc didn't seem to bother them, and favre just can't play in the cold anymore.

i think that there is realistically no way that the jets will even play to beat Miami if it means putting us in the playoffs...our games are both at 1:00...i think that Mangini, the players, the fans and the media would rather have them end up 9--7 than give the Pats the Division. i think the idea of the Jets winning next Sunday is a non starter.

There is still a playoff berth on the line for them technically and Mangini may also be coaching to save his job. There is no way this game is thrown.

As much as it pains me to say this, have faith in the Jets. Miami is NOT tough at all. Their schedule is about as easy as it gets and they barely beat the Chiefs today. I think if Tyler Thigpen can lead the Chiefs to 30+ points at his house, Brett Favre should have no problem doing it in the Medowlands.

I think it is what it is.

First and foremost, the Pats need to win their game.

After that, if the Jags win against the Ravens (I don't see it, but every given Sunday) and the Jets beating the Dolphins, that would be a very good day.

In the last week or two in a playoff race you just never know what can happen.

You think you know but you never know.

I remember in 06 when my Colts clinched the third seed in the final week (barely beat Miami too) we all felt we would get the Broncos in the WC round who just had to beat the niners at home to make it as the 6th seed.

Then the Broncos laid an egg and everyone was like omg not the Chiefs.:D

So, what I am saying is anything can happen. I thought the Bills would lose to the Broncos today in Denver. I thought no way could the Jets lose to the crappy Seahawks. Miami had a shootout with KC. Tampa Bay was supposed to be the best D weeks ago and has laid an egg for 3 straight weeks. Falcons are in the playoffs!

I think your best shot is a Jags upset over the Ravens in Baltimore. Is it possible? Sure if they can get to Flacco and are pissed off over the close loss to the Colts. And if MJD can get going and Garrard just plays to show he earned the big contract he got. Or to save the job of JDR. They might be embarrassed Manning made them look like garbage on defense and take frustrations out on a rookie QB.

For what it's worth, since 2000 the Jets are 7-1 at the Meadowlands (game results below from Wikipedia). If we include the 90s, the Jets are 14-4 at the Meadowlands.

Miami's last win there was in 2003. Favre will not want his potentially last game to be an embarassing loss, the fans will be charged up (unless the NFL is stupid and moves their game to 4), Mangini's job is on the line, and this is a big rivalry so all the players will be charged up.

On the other hand, Miami will be charged up beyond belief: going from a one-win season to winning the Division and making the playoffs? Forget about it. Parcells will have them super-focused, Chad Pennington has something to prove, as does Ricky Williams.

I haven't seen Miami the last few weeks, so can't comment on their actual play, but judging by the scores of their games...not so impressive.

It all adds up to what should be a great game and an amazing weekend of football. I hate them both so much, especially Mangina and the Jests, but I will swallow my rage and root for them like crazy. Shoot, maybe I should get a Favre jersey. :)

2000 October 23 New York Jets 40-37
2001 October 14 New York Jets 21-17
2002 November 10 New York Jets 13-10
2003 September 14 Miami Dolphins 21-10
2004 November 1 New York Jets 41-14
2005 September 18 New York Jets 17-7
2006 October 15 New York Jets 20-17
2007 September 23 New York Jets 31-28

There is no reason to have any fath in the Jetsl.

They are poorly coached, have poor QB play, and haven't played a decent football game in over a month. They likely lose by 2 touchdowns next week.
