now we prob would have set a NEW scoring record this season w/ brady...but cassel, in his first year as starter, is doing damn good

and it also shows that there is one hell of a supporting offense here as well

I think two favorite whipping boys on this board (well one is former) deserve a lot of credit for this. Both Cassel and McDaniels deserve a lot of props for this. Cassel has been playing near Bradylike the last month or two. People said this year would be the true test for McDaniels, more so than last year, and it seems pretty clear he passed with flying colors. The sad thing is that we may find out next year how much the guy really meant to this team.

Yes especially in light of it took Cassel a few games to even look like maybe he had a chance.

Exactly. Ironically, the reason the record has fallen off isnt because of the loss of Brady, its mostly because of the falloff of the defense and special teams. Thats a credit to Cassel and McDaniel. As ive said, only the Colts loss might have been different with Brady. The other 4 not at all.

And lets give a little credit to Bill Belichick, who once again, has the Patriots playing there best football in December. If they pound the Bills next week and get in as the #3, tell me, what team would want to play them???

It shows just how good our offense was last year that we're losing 10 PPG and are still that high up. I think the deterioration of Moss and our O-line has been greatly exaggerated.

Well, Belichick obviously gets tons of credit. But he is getting a heaping share everywhere for this season. It is time for other guys to get the spotlight they deserve. Besides, Belichick gives McDaniels almost complete autonomy on gamedays and many times doesn't even watch the offense.

BTW, a lot of guys deserve huge helpings of credit including Welker, Faulk, Morris, Moss, the o-line, Jordan, Gaffney, etc.

The offense has come aroung. 48 against Miami was impressive. Otherwise, great year for the Patriots to play a lot of weak teams, just what Cassell needed to gain confidence.

That is amazing. I had to check for myself, because it wasn't that long ago that they were 3rd or 4th in their division in terms of points for.

Semi-OT, but it's scary to think this time last year, the Pats had 551 points.

The Pats have been scoring a lot of points lately, and Cassel's back to back 400 yard games are certainly part of the picture for the offense. BTW against Arizona we got to see what a HEALTHY tandem of Morris and Jordan can do. It was pretty sweet The offense is starting to click on all cylinders now. The real question is, if we can make the playoffs, can our offense stay as productive against the tougher defenses like the Steelers and Titans?

I remember when John Clayton said that the Pats wouldn't even average 17 PPG with Cassel at the helm.

our first half against the steeler was very good, until the melt down in the 2nd half. If the patriots make it into the playoffs, they will be a very dangerous team.

Cassel has been very impressive, but he's very, very far off from Brady. We'd easily be leading the league in scoring if all you did was turn all the wasted red zone opportunities into touchdowns, which is where Brady is the most undervalued. He's so good in the red zone we don't really appreciate it, and it's still Cassel's biggest weakness.

That said, whoever Cassel is playing for next will be getting a very good quarterback, and it's a terrific testament to the surrounding talent and the incredible system put in place by Belichick and company.

Indeed.

It seems as if the OL, while they have the occasionally stinker of a game as pass blockers, were actually underrated as run blockers.

This is interesting. I was wondering whether or not we were up there but it appears we are. If our offense can continue on like this and channel 2007 and the defense (specifically the pass rush) can finish out the year like they did today, we can make some noise if we get into the playoffs.

It's an amazing stat. The difference between Cassel in preseason to Cassel now is astounding ! I think our running game is way more balanced than last year too.....Five guys with at least 250 yards rushing (Morris, Faulk, Jordan, BJGE & Cassel) is a big difference from last year. We are a top 10 rushing team (#7 currently).
