1) All teams have "control of their destiny" at the start of the season. And yet, only a few make the playoffs... And each of those playoff and non-playoff teams have lost at least a couple of games they should not have, judging by the rest of their record. Some of the only exceptions are the Steelers with their 15-1 team, and us with our 16-0.

2) Here's a post from a Cowboy's forum:
All the Cowboys have to do is win. If they win the next three games, they are GUARANTEED a spot in the playoffs. It doesn't matter what any other team does. The Cowboys hold the key to their future in their own hands. They control their destiny. Win and they're in. They don't need help, they can do it themselves.

I think we can see that just because there's a way for a team to "guarantee" playoffs if they win every game, doesn't mean there's a way for them to "guarantee" actually winning each of those games.

my amp goes up to 11.

Start one more thread in here like that and you're History...JL will hear about this!

Thanks for pointing out if you go 16-0 you will make the playoffs. Guess what you will also clinch a bye. However, you don't automatically get homefield through out. (you need a little help with that)

How the mainstream sports talking heads miss major relevant points like this, I'll just never understand.

(In the future you might want to refrain from sharing "revelations" that come to you at 2:52 in the morning ;))

How do you come back from that one? Your next 100 posts have to be killers.

he's trying to say controlling the games that get you into the playoffs have just as much chance as the games you dont control.

I have to admit, PS, that that quote is a showstopper. I'm going to give you the big "benefit of the doubt" and assume that your post is tongue in cheek, otherwise I would have to assume that you got into Santa's brandy at 2AM or that you are intentionally wasting space and time on the board and are monumentally...oh, I'm too polite to say it.

LOL you guys are funny, but I kind of see his point.

Though you can't necessarily compare the results from a dysfunctional, gutless team like Dallas with what a team like ours could have done in the last 2 weeks. I truly think if Baltimore lost last night, there was almost zero chance we lose to AZ or Buffalo. Now there's a decent chance we could lose either or both.

Coming soon to a forum thread near you

For a while last year, I thought Goodall would ban us from the playoffs due to Spygate.

I'm beginning to think that this is not our year and we would be better served missing the playoffs and restarting in 2009 healthy.

I kinda like ending the season on a 4 game winning streak.

GFY

What the heck are you smoking?

Just want to reply. If my post was so obvious, I'm not sure why there were so many posts that our playoff chances were done after Cowboys lost to Baltimore, or even the week before. While the Cowboys loss hurt is, it did show that just because the team had to simply win three games to guarantee a playoff spot, it didn't mean they would actually come out like the want to make the playoffs. People were starting to assume that teams like the Cowboys and Jets would actually show up to each of their games just because they could "easily" get to the playoffs by winning their last games.

And of course, the Jets proved it again today. :)

PatSunday starring as MASTER OF THE OBVIOUS

IMO Thomas Jones should have 150+ yards rushing against that porous Hawks defense and I can see Favre carving up 250 in the air to Keller,Cotchery and Coles

The chances of the Hawks beating the Jets is about the same as Detroit winning a game this season - not very likely.

I guess one of us is... :) But I compliment you, that at least in that second post you didn't insult the poster. :)

did you really just post this

I firmly believe the Pats can lose any game they want to this season if they try hard enough.

Including this one.

That's what makes it exciting.

Did you really just post that? When you had posted something similar just days ago, I don't see why you should be complaining... :) At least my post was more interesting and more optimistic than yours. Yours is the one you should be complaining more about. :)

Yes, the original post was completely obvious and had almost no substance to it. But a few days ago the same poster posted the "Matt vs Matt: which Matt will have a better game?" thread. So unbelievably this thread may represent progress for him.

I don't think this post got enough love. Well done sir

I don't think you understood my post at all.
