Re: OT:Vernon Gholston inactive

I hear he was listed as doubtful with a busted draft pick all week.

Re: OT: Vernon Gholston inactive

He's been inactive all year. ;)

Woof, woof--Gholston Deactivated vs. Bills

Let's make up a word here:

Draftenfreude n. Warm fuzzy feeling you get when the NY Jets' lottery pick turns out to be an absolute bust. Feels even better when you trade down a few spots and pick up a much better player, plus a draft pick.

Re: Woof, woof--Gholston Deactivated vs. Bills

Would feel even better if the Bills had called a running play instead of that play action pass. But yes, I think it just reiterates what we all know, the quality of the Pats front office is far superior to that of the Jests. And irregardless of what the standings say at the end of this season, the next 5 years will really show how superior management is. The Jests went for broke this season.

Well... they are in the driver's seat for the division. Can't say going for broke didn't work.

That said, I love multimillion dollar gaffes at the expense of division rivals.

Cute word. I like it!:D

Gholston really isn't that bad. For some reason Mangenius thought he could play in space having no experience dropping back in coverage. The guy does one thing well and that's get to the QB, so what they really should do is put him in the Jarvis Green (passing down) role. At least they'd get some use out of him. Instead Mangenius talks about how slow he is mentally because "the neurons haven't snapped together yet"

Gholston inactive in last game

NY Jets top rookie OLB Vernon Gholston was a healthy inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets.

Wow.

A lot of us, myself included, were wrong about this guy.
I wonder, if he was there, if the Pats would have taken him at #10.

There really wasn't a lot of options for the Jets @ #6, I wanted McFadden, but after the Raiders picked him and there were no one willing to give fair compensation for tradin up to #6, I felt the Ghoulston pick made sense.

He looks like a bust at this point, but I am not ready to give up on him, he has lots to learn switching from a DE to OLB, not sure he has the brain power to do it.

Many draftniks here wanted him also.
Better you than us.

That's a broad statement and, I believe, incorrect. There was a lot of interest in Gholston but also Mayo, Rivers, Clady and several of the CB. I don't think Gholston was the #1 preferred pick here let alone the guy who most wanted.

Re: Woof, woof--Gholston Deactivated vs. Bills

Well the other teams fans from the division are still laughing at our 2006 picks of Laurence Glass Maroney and especially Chad Bust Jackson who not only did we move up to get him,but we let Greg Jennings go down to GB

It happens to ALL teams

I would agree that I wouldn't give up on him yet and I agree that at that the pick made sense as building a pass rush was something your guys were keying in on. But I completely disagree that there wasn't other options at #6. That is a Mel Kiper ideal and not something that Peoli or Belichick would be thinking. If the guy you wanted is gone you go to the next option sure maybe a trade down wasn't there than grab the next guy on your board don't grab some guy because he carries the hype of someone who should be selected at 6.

Wouldn't Mayo have been an option just to note another option. I know we traded down and still were considered to be reaching but thats what Makes BB and Pioli great at drafting they don't care about the perception of reaching they are looking for their type of football player and the only thing that matters to them when deciding if this is the guy to take is is he the best on the their board and could they get him with their next pick. If they can't get him with the next pick than taking him now would make sense as regardless of perception of reach it would be their last chance to get said player so in their minds they are not reaching.

Part of the reason was that Ghoulston was never expected to fall below the #6 pick, in hind sight I wish the Jets had drafted McKelvin or Mayo, but at the #6 pick neither of them were rated high enough to justify taking a #10/12 pick at the #6 spot.

Re: Gholston inactive in last game

he sucks. Maybe he can train hard, study and work out more and get better, but for now, I forget the guy is even in the nfl most of the time.

Who do you have to justify it to?

Your advocating drafting a percieved worse player because it is more justified persumably to the fan base or the media.

again I thought at the time it was the right player but not because of perception but becuase I thought he would be the best rusher available something you guys were hunting.

Great post. And I really can't disagree with any of it because I don't know that much about drafting and all, but the littl I do know seems to agree exactly with what are posting.

Just saying that I can understand why the Jets picked Ghoulston at #6 and don't think it was a stupid move.
