6th seed could be good

That was my recollection too, that they avoided wild card matchups involving teams in the same division. But maybe that got changed at some point.

I'd rather play the Jets or Miami, especially Miami, than be at Denver. Then we'd play at Tenn, assuming they hang on to 1st seed, then at Pitt. That's our best hope. We want Tennessee to be the #1 seed.

Wishful thinking for Tennessee to be #1 Seed that passing game they are sporting stands no chance against any AFC rival. Also i expect Pittsburgh to tear them a new one next week in Nashville. Pittsburgh with that Defense will be the Number 1 Seed.

First and always, the Pats. If they can't win then the AFC over the NFC.

Of all the current AFC playoff entrants, I think the Pittsburg Steelers are the best team to represent the AFC in the SuperBowl. (If they only had a modicum of Offense.) Besides they play football the way it should be played; tough gritty Defense, and some efficient Offense, not some prissy Colts type offensive show. :singing:

That applies in baseball (where the division winner and wildcard of same division can't meet in the first round) but not football.

I think you are right.
In 1997 the Pats won the division and played the Dolphins in the first round.
The last game of the regular season was at Miami.

That's probably where I was confused - it's in baseball. So then I'd like to see Miami win the AFC East, and we go to Miami for the wild card game. That game would almost be a gimme.

i want us 2 win the division and crush miami at home and get sum revenge for that week 3 loss. who's with me?

If Steelers and Colts both win out, Pittsburgh gets #1, Colts get #2, and Tennesse bumps down to #5. Alot can still happen.

No TN has the division even if the Colts win out.
Colts win against Jax they can not budge from the 5th seed.

I guess I'm superstitious enough that this thread makes me nervous...BUT...

Another poster pointed out that Divsion rivals can play in the Wildcard round. Nothing would make me happier than having the Pats eliminate the Jets on their own home field OTHER than the Jets not making the playoffs at all while the Pats squeak in on the Wildcard....

I was playing with the Yahoo play off simulator and I liked this one (only because the Colts are out of the playoffs).
Pats win out 6th seed
Phins win out 3rd seed
Ravens win out 5th seed
Colts lose out, home for the holidays

I don't think our chances of winning the division are good, but we have a great chance at the wild card. I don't see Dallas losing at home against the Ravens this weekend, which gives us the 6th seed assuming we win out.

The seeds are shaping up this way:
1- Tenn
2- Pitt
3- NYJ or Mia
4- Denver
5- Indy
6- NE

Round 1: #1 & 2 get the first week off. #6 would ordinarily play #3, but I think they re-arrange things so as not to have division opponents in round 1. So we'd be at Denver. Definitely a winnable game, though that place is a house of horrors for us. We should win it. In the same round, Indy would have no problem with either the Jets or Phins.

Round 2: So then we would be the lowest seed playing the top seed - Tennessee. Indy would be at Pitt. I like our matchup with Tenn, because they don't throw the ball well. I could see us winning that game if our current players are reasonably healthy. Pitt and Indy would be a good match, a tossup, but let's say Pitt wins.

AFCC: at Pitt. The way I look at it is that we dominated that 1st half of the Pitt game last month and would have won if Moss doesn't drop a couple of balls. So we can compete with the Steelers, which is all I can ask of this team. Despite our flaws, we have a shot.

Denver will be 1 and done-their record is inflated b/c of the weak AFCW. Plus their D is hugely crummy.

if i remember the afc west was good while the afc east was horrible with the exception of the pats. kinda turn of the tables aint it

Yup, and I was there for it! :D

They were giving out promotional mini-bandanas with the Dolphins logo on it. There was a line of Pats fans in the bathroom to use the toilet that had a Dolphins bandana as a urinal cake. Good times!

My hope is for the Ravens to take the 6th seed, and go into #1 Seed Pitt (I think they beat the Titans this week, and finish #1), and then come to Indy. IOW, I like the Ravens chance at upsetting a #1 better than I like Pats chances. Although, I like the Pats chances better versus Tennessee than versus Pitt.

You say all this as if this season has had any predictability about it whatsoever. While all of this looks great in theory, I have absolutely zero faith in ANYONE predicting ANYTHING after the rollercoaster of a season this league has been lately.

wouldnt it be incredible if we made it to the afc championship game

Also, as I've been saying for a few weeks, the season would be worthwhile if the Pats went into NY in Round 1 and ended the Jets season. Anything after that would be gravy.

The way things have gone this year, I'd be more than content to settle for that as my "Super Bowl" :)

i want a superbowl, this team can win it all, and until it cannot i will want a sb

Hear, hear.. The Pats can win it all ... Did anyone give us a chance to win the SB in 2001 (in Week 14) ? I do believe we can. Believe it!! It will happen.

Yeah sorry I'm more concerned with Arizona than any team that we could play in the play offs
