Brett Favres performance on MNF against Oakland after his father died has been treated like the greatest athletic feat in the history of mankind.
Matt Cassel played just as well yesterday, and some in the media noted it, but not NEARLY with the hype the media always gushes on Brett Overated.
Him dancing around yesterday after the Bills handed the Jets the victory made me want someone to throw a shoe at HIM. The Jets won in spite of Favre.

And Cassel deserves a lot more attention for the way he played Sunday.

Biggest difference was that it was on MNF and Brett's father passed away a day before the game.

Also, there really wasn't much exciting the way Matt got his four TDs. It was all pretty much short passes, except the 20-yarder to Moss. I could have sworn that Favre threw some long bombs to get his four TDs.

Why, because you are talking about Brett favre and Cassel. Everybody knows who Brett Favre is.
Great game by Matt, but he is no Brett Favre.

Why would that bother any one.

I agree with you 100%, but nowadays everything is an offense to someone.

I remember that game (of Favre's). I've never disliked him like most Pat's fans. I always thought he was great, enjoyed the way he played, and wished he was a Patriot, from day one. He plays the game with passion, fire, and heart. He is definately one of the top 10 QB's of all time. That being said, his game was a nationally televised Monday night game, and I believe his father might have died the day before the game, which made the game that much more magnified on a national stage. Also, Favre is a more in your face kind of person than Cassel. I think that's why the Favre game is mentioned so much. What Cassel did was also amazing, but Cassel is a quiet unassuming person. What both of these guys did was amazing, I don't know if I could function for a month, if my father passed away.

You must summarily present your list of top 10 QBs. Prepare for the 8 pages of flame.

Everything Favre does gets ridiculous attention and praise. I know he's a legend, but the gushing the media does over him is beyond sickening at this point. He could throw 7 picks, but if his team somehow pulls the game out, they'd give him most of the credit.

I'm a long-time Brett Hater. Find him to be the most selfish "me" "me" "me" player I ever seen. All about the personal glory. He just "uses" the "team." Fake as a three dollar bill too. Hate him with a passion. WAY over-rated. And, quite frankly, he pretty much sucks now.

I'm glad they did not fawn over Cassel. It's a tragedy - losing one's father so young - and it's a private matter too. Only Brett Favre would exploit THAT situation to make himself look good.

1) Joe Montana
2) Johnny Unitas
3) John Elway
4) Tom Brady
5) Brett Favre
6) Peyton Manning
7) Dan Marino

8-10 that's a tough call, some old timers for sure, like Sammy Baugh, and maybe Dan Fouts, etc.

That's my list, I'm sure everyone else's is different

If anyone remembers, Favre's "great" game that day were mostly thanks to his receivers. Lord Favre did his usual routine of chucking it up for grabs, but his receivers made some great plays on the ball and reeled in several passes that could've been INTs. People tend to forget that with the Favre mythos...

I don't remember it that way, tho, I'm not a Favre hater. I remember that MNF performance as truly awesome. I think Cassel had a great game yesterday.

Found this on Youtube of his TD's that night. Now, I agree with his sensationism, but I don't see the receivers having to lay out for his passes.

Almost.

Biggest difference was that it was on MNF and Madden never could stop gushing about Favre. Five will get you ten he takes pictures of Favre into the bathroom.

My memory could be faulty, but I'm fairly certain there were several throws that required great plays from his WRs. On that day they made them instead of being intercepted. If anything it pretty much sums up Favre's career, where he will gamble and sometimes it pays off and other times it kills you.

Favre is a media whore...always has been..it just shows how the media bows down to some athletes..an don't really care about others....It's all typical of MAKING stories larger or smaller..as for football hype..ESPN, MBNF..they are basically all blow hards..promoting what they wish...which is WHY mots is garbage and could be gone...VERY few discussion on either ESPN or NFLN are really anything close to good..

Love your top 4, Brady might be my 3rd over Elway, but i like your thinking.

where mine is different is i think a lot of Roger Staubach and Terry Bradshaw as QB's and i would have them 5 and 6, Baugh at 7, Bart Starr at 8, Manning at 9, then take your pick among Favre, Marino and Aikman after that.

Matt Cassel is better than Brett Favre (today, not in his prime)

I think the straight up answer is that in 2003, Brett Favre had been in the League since 1992, had played in nearly 200 games, was the League's only three time MVP, had won a Super Bowl and was without dispute on his way to Canton. I don't have a problem with the differential treatment. It would have been unreasonable to have expected anything else, even if a little more recognition of what Matt did would have been nice. However, the media and the NFL are not about "nice."
