Poking around SI's site today, and one of their photo spreads was ranking the top 20 Heisman winners.

The first thing that struck me was how many had horrendous NFL careers. One name stuck out, Ron Dayne. Big, fast, able to run around/over/through - kinda Earl Campbell-ish.

Who, if anyone, do you wish had made it? Not necessarily an ex-Patriot, just any college hopeful that seemed to disappear after draft day.

Re: I wish they had made it ...

This isn't a true answer to your question as he did make it before injuries but we may have been robbed of seeing the all time great RB had Bo Jackson stayed healthy.

Peter Warrick.

I'm still convinced he is the next Jerry Rice.

I remember Ragheb Ismail being the first athlete I really was a fan of. But then I was too young to understand why he wasn't playing in the NFL, I thought Canada offered him more money :(

I was talking about Bo the other day with a co-worker. A rare power runner who could run well north/south and laterally.

Bo cutting toward Brian Bosworth and driving him into the endzone has to be one of my favorite plays in NFL history.

Too bad we never got to watch him as a full-time running back (although he was a true multi-sport athlete and almost as entertaining in baseball). He was one of a kind.

I would've liked to see Michael Vick become a dominant player. I remember watching him in his 2nd year and being constantly entertained. Kind of sad that it turned out to be the peak of his career.

Chad Jackson and Laurence Maroney

I thought KiJana Carter was going to rule and stuff when he was drafted. Now I see that all Penn State RB's look good (Larry Johnson has done well for himself, though).

.

Keep in mind that it's for the best college player and many times that player won't necessarily be a dominant pro. There are many who had great NCAA careers but wouldn't translate at the next level.

Willie Green (I think his name was?) was a monster at BC and was drafted by the Browns, where he stunk. I don't think he's in the NFL anymore.

Him being local, I wanted him to succeed. Just didn't have what it takes I guess
