I'd like to have everyone get together and send a letter by e-mail to [email protected] for Matt, and I'm going to put them all together to send down to the stadium. I think it would be nice for him to receive some well wishes by mail from everyone here, so I encourage everyone who would like to send him some well-wishes to do so.

Thanks Ian, mine is sent

Let me play Devil's advocate for a minute. My father died last summer and the phone would not stop ringing. The people calling were friends and family that had good intentions however the lack of privacy became stressful. I am just an anonymous citizen; a celebrity ball player may or may not want or need thousands of emails right now.

Really? My dad died this time last year and I really enjoyed hearing from friends, especially the ones who I hadn't spoken to in a while. I agree that the phone constantly rang, but it was nice knowing that it was always someone who wanted to listen and help.

Ian said he was sending these to the stadium... if that's accurate he won't get them until they return to Foxborough anyway. I just have a lot of trouble swallowing the idea that Cassel wouldn't appreciate something like this.

The e-mails are coming in to here, not to Matt directly. Since we're not affiliated with the team directly, I obviously don't have Matt's e-mail address. I was going to print them and put them in an envelope and send them all down together, much like we did years ago for another former player. Then he can read them when he has the time to do so. - Ian

Wow, poor guy.

He's younger than me....and his dad died? That's just...wrong.

I don't think it's a lack of privacy or annoyance issue, especially the way Ian plans to send them. He doesn't have to read each one, or he can choose not to read any. It's just a nice gesture, to let him know how just how many fans are sending their best wishes.

Always a class act, Ian. I'll send mine off later today. In the cover letter that goes with the package, you might even want to print out some selected posts from the main thread where there are many spontaneous and heartfelt thoughts and prayers for Matt and his family.

Honestly, great idea. This is about the least intrusive you can get while still communicating with him.

Great idea.....!!

Yup.. excellent idea, Ian.

Thanks for taking the ball and running with it.

Good Call Ian.

Another option if you want to be a bit more old fashion and send a condolence card instead of a condolence email would be to mail it to:

Matt Cassel
c/o New England Patriots
One Patriot Place
Foxborough, MA 02035

Call me an old fuddyduttie but I find the idea of an sympathy email to be a bit tacky.

No offense meant. Ian - it is a nice idea, but I will be sending a card instead.

Thanks Ian, great opportunity for us to send something as a group yet with our own individual messages. I'll do one later on today.

Yes, I was going to do send that thread as well. Of course I have to prune the idiot out first  - Ian

Sounds good. I just thought it would be great if he received a lot of well wishes from all together. I'll put them all together in a nice package like I did the last time and it will look better than a bunch of emails. :)

Also, I'm going to try and send these out Monday so if you can try and get them in by Sunday night so I can put them all together, that would be great. - Ian

For what little it's worth, I'm sorry that my quote was apparently the one that prompted that little tirade. :(

Just sent mine, thanks for link Ian!
