Miami and the NY Jets were already looking to the 2008 draft at this time last year but this year has them not only with winning records but a good chance to make the playoffs and boast as division champs

With that being said,Which one player between both teams in his first year with them has been the biggest difference maker in turning their new team around?

Hands down it has to be Lion Heart.

If you think about it, the Favre acquisition made two teams better by making Pennington tradeable.

Ironically, I think Pennington is the reason the Fins are better and Favre is the reason the Jets are better. TMQ claims Favre is losing arm strength down the stretch and this is the reason the Jets have lost 2 in a row. I hope it continues.

Its amazing that Pennington has made that team so much better when guys like Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas could not

Shows you that QB is the biggest difference between winning and losing when you look at the overall picture

Not to mention an absolute genius as GM in soon to be HOFer Mr. Parcells

jury's out, but when you consider where they came from, it's got to be chad. favre had a lot of other new weapons on both sides of the ball and he looks like he's getting ready for a late season el foldo.

that's a very interesting way of looking at it, but I'm not convinced that, in the end, the jets wouldn't have been better off keeping chad and seeing how he worked out with the other new weapons. we have three more weeks to solve that one.

Pennington and Jenkins:

When Jenkins has a bad game, the Jets have a bad game.

Pennington is a better QB in many ways (except for the stretching of the field, which is admittedly big) and he makes the Dolphins better by a lot.

I think I agree with that. But if Miami ends up beating the Jets out for the division title, the irony will be excellent.

Mathematicly it's Chad. Biggest improvement and he's the centerpiece. Contrast him to Aqua's butt boy Beck at QB last year. Excerable.

Jenkins has absolutely made the Jets better but they haven't gotten THAT much better vis-a-vis the Phins, so he's a distant 2nd. Favre is now in his "Bret being Bret" mode and will make the Jets worse.

If we want to win the AFCE, we need to pray that al-Quaeda kidnaps Pennington for the next 3 games releasing him at New Years as an olive branch. Just a thought

I think the mentality Tuna and Sparano brought is the reason for the Dolphins' success. They also got rid of two veterans with a 'tude.

The Jest would have been fine with Chad once Brady went down, they might have even gotten a game off us with Brady considering our defense this year. They loaded up in the offseason, so they were going to be playoff contenders at some level either way.

Tom Brady in (because of) absentia.

I love the spirit of your post but I don't see Brady winning a couple games like the Jets and Phins where the TEAM played SO horribly and the D let us down. Maybe Pitt? But there again lots of dropped passes, strip sacks (and we KNOW Brady's had several) and a fumbled KR.

I think the Jets loss and the Colts results could realistically have been different with Brady in there. Now, nobody can know how the season would have looked, but I think 10-3 with Brady is a reasonable proposition.

Also, one of the most important variables for takeaways/turnovers is whether a team is playing ahead or behind. There is a definite correlation. So, while I agree about the defense, perhaps Brady would have been better at red zone efficiency -- Patriots had a strong chance to be leading by 3, 7, or 10 in the Pittsburgh game. Sometimes big loss margins can be traceable to small changes in momentum. You never know -- still, I think given the relatively weak schedule this year and the opportunity to play the NFC's worst division, 10-3 and comfortably in the playoffs is not unreasonable even with the defensive situation.

My write in is for the Tuna. Sometimes it takes a year, but when he comes into town, his team always improves dramatically. He just needs to go to Buffalo to round out the AFC East.

brett favre. he made the fins better.

Dolphins are no longer being run by morons. Thats the biggest reason. ;)

Player - Penny

As others have said, Tuna has been very important.

Take Jenkins, Favre AND Faneca out of NY and the team could still be 5-8 or 6-7. Take Pennington out of Miami and they are maybe 4-9.
