A few quick observations from being at the game (very tired at the moment):
*Qwest Field is a spectacular place, built to hold noise and bounce it down onto the field. The Seahawks fans are LOUD, as advertised. Also very civil folks by and large. One of the NFL's better fan bases.
*BB spent a lot of time talking with Holmgren at midfield before the game. Holmgren has a local TV postgame show and commented on it when asked by a fan via e-mail. He said he and BB go back as competitors about 25 years, and that they have mutual respect for each other. Said they talked about common players they've had, etc. Also said BB gave him some flattering compliments which he appreciated.
*The obvious onfield stuff I'm sure most of you saw on TV: The defense looked very unsure of itself in the first half and confused at times. Lots of substitutions, people in and out, Colvin and Seau trying to find their feet again, defensive backfield very vulnerable, etc. Also, Cassel missed several open receivers on what would have been big plays. I was nervous about this game all the way to the end. Wallace's late 20-yard scramble put them at our 42 and I thought overtime was inevitable. Thank God for Meriweather's blitz and the fumble.
*Randy Moss walked off the field alone the moment time expired. What's up with that?
*Seattle played with a lot of intensity for a team that had nothing to play for. We seemed to play right into it by not working harder to establish the run.
*Seneca Wallace looks like he has potential to be a starting QB in this league. At least, we made him look that way.
*Thank God for Wes Welker. Seattle fans were marveling at his play.
*The stadium is downtown on the waterfront. Tailgating is replaced by fans partying in nearby taverns/restaurants before and after the game. Pretty festive atmosphere. The team has a drum corps called Blue Thunder that plays in the stadium and also travels around to the various taverns to play a few minutes in each and pump up the fans.
*Downtown Seattle is a fun place. The seafood here is amazingly good. I've had three different kinds of salmon, huge razor clams, rock fish, etc. Seems like seafood gets better play here than it does in Boston.
*Seahawks cheerleaders are very, very foxy.
*In summary, a gut-wrenching game that was surprising in how well Seattle was prepared and how hard they played. We escaped with a win in a game that easily could have ended in the Seahawks' favor. Everything else: first class all the way. I was glad to have this experience as a visiting fan after the crapfest experience earlier this season in San Diego. Too bad Seattle is no longer in the AFC.
