..how much did it help the pats other than tying the lead in the division ? if jets or fins win out they still win the division right ? and if jets win div then miami beats us for the WC assuming baltimore falters ?

The fact of the matter is, when you apply tiebreakers, the Pats were in 2nd place yesterday and 3rd place today.

Jets still control there own destiny, if they win out they will be the AFCE champs.....

Then be one n done in the playoffs.

the afc east is crazy competitive this season. buffalo's at the bottom of the division and they're close to .500

The Jets are skidding. The competition is not getting easier.

We're in bad shape too. This week of prep is critical.

It helps in this regard; Any loss at all by the Jets puts us in front of them (assuming we continue to win). Prior to today, only a division loss by the Jets would have moved us in front of them. Regarding the Patriots "best shot" scenario, it is this: (obviously the Patriots win all 3 remaining games) The Phins lose to SF next week. The Phins then defeat the Jets in week 17.
That, as I see it, is the best hope for the Patriots winning the division. Now obviously anything can happen, however, I definitely don't see the Phins losing to KC. I likely don't see the Jets losing to Buff or Seattle. Go SF!

The only thing the Pats have going for them is that they were missing a lot of pieces today with at least some coming back as soon as next week hopefully. Also, Colvin and Seau may be better with a few more reps and practices under their belts.

But they were one game behind the Jets and tied today. Either the Jets or Dolphins will definitely not win at least one more game meaning the odds of a three way tie are not great. Eventhough the Pats look farther back because of tiebreakers, they are closer to possibly winning the division.

the playoff odds are up a tiny bit, 21% from 18.7%.

This could still change with the Ravens outcome. Ravens, Jets, Dolphins, Colts control their own destinies and we don't.

this is with the weighted outcome method, taking into account strength of schedule, home/away, recent success, etc. The coin-flip method gives us slightly better odds

A Redskins comeback would be sweet.

edit: 19.5% after Ravens win

They won their game, which is all they can control. We can't really ask for anything more than that. Obviously I'd prefer if they controlled their own destiny, but I'm still of the belief that if they win out, they'll be in. That said, given they haven't won 3 straight all year, I'm just crossing my fingers at this point.

2002 all over again...

At least in 2002 we were 9-7. To go 11-5 and not make the playoffs (which might happen) is incredibly frustrating. 11-5 earned us a 1st round bye in 2001!! My how times have changed. I wonder if the NFL will re-think having each division play so many common opponents. If you get a couple of weak divisions as the AFCE did this year, you end up with lots of teams on top and lots on the bottom and not many in between.

I am confident we'll make the playoffs if we go 11-5; however, I expect us to miss the playoffs at 10-6, I see no way this defense can beat the Cardinals whatever the stats say about western teams traveling east.

I can not imagine how soar both of them will be for the next couple of days. Even in high school, I'd be soar as hell sunday and Monday. I can't imagine being in the NFL at 32 & 39 years old and not having even practiced.

Ouch...

The only way we beat them is how we beat Miami - in a shoot out where we have to have a great offensive game plan to take long drives down the field and score TDs early and often. Hopefully the weather, the long trip and home field advantage will let the Pats get a win, but nothing is a lock right now, and you are correct that this appears to be our toughest out left.

We all thought Seattle would be an easy out. Ha! Still, a win is a win, and seeing Deion Branch walk off the field with a downcast face was very satisfying considering his showboating and the announcers' shameless fawning over him during the entire game. Why does Bob Kraft hire **** Enberg and Randy Cross for preseason games?
