Pass defense is just... I don't even know what to say

and except for that fluke catch and run by twig, they really didn't do much the second half

A win is a win. The defense played better in the second half and the offense picked up the slack. That is one more win than the Jets can claim today.

It would be helpful to look at the defensive depth chart at the beginning of the year and the dept chart today.

But I will agree that the FO misjudged players to bring in at the CB position. Although the rookies should be so much better next year.

After 4:33 pm, Seattle did nothing but a wackadoo freaky play.

And we accomplished this with Wilfork, Adalius, Bruschi, Warren, Harrison, Wheatley, Sanders, Woods out...

We played with:

1. Old guy who was surfing all season
2. Old guy who was working his UPS franchise all season
3. A 7th round draft pick filling in for a Pro Bowler
4. An undrafted FA from the U of Cincinnati filling in for another pro bowler
5. An undrafted FA at OLB who was playing out of position (and it showed)
6. Vrabel who played with whiplash all game
7. A rookie cornerback drafted in the 4th round
8. Lewis Sanders at safety.

Are you kidding me?

People should go back and look at the scores of Seattle's recent games.

I almost give the defense a free pass on this one. They had so many players out with young players playing starting at their position for the first time (Guyton outside, Whilhite). The trend overall is distrubing, but there were reasons today.

I am optimistic about Colvin being a pass rusher. He showed up several times, although now sack, but put some pressure on. Our DBs still struggle, but with some pressure from a pass rush, they could be a little bit more competitive.

Also was please with Mike Wright's play. He put on some pressure up the middle numerous times.

Fans want the team to get into the playoffs and play well. Even a massive homer like yourself can't say this pass defense is any good. We all understand the injuries and that they are still having a decent year...but that doesn't mean being unable to stop any type of passing attack, especially against a career backup, isn't a concern.

Hard to say they misjudged CBs, O'Neil was meant to be a stopgap until Wheatley matured, losing Wheatley led to a shift and today Wilhite stepped up and started - he played well, the pull up on Wallace's scramble is partly a rookie mistake and partly Goodall wimp wristed football - though shall not touch a QB near the sideline. Other than Meriweather getting toasted by Carlson a couple times (which is no surprise, I wanted to draft him last spring), the young guys (1st and 2nd year) out there should make us proud.

As stated many times over in this thread, we are playing a defense with over 1/2 the starters players who were supposed to be backups, role/ST players, or surfing in CA.

The D played terrible on the first two drives of the game. Take away that crazy play by the twig in the second half, and the D looked better. Believe me, I was frustrated as h ell during the game, but we got the win. Let Warren, Wilfork (fingers crossed), Bruschi, and co. get healthy, and maybe we'll tighten it up even more.
