Division tiebreakers

So we are all tied now, and either the Dolphins and Jets are guaranteed to lose one since they play each other at the end of the year. So right now, who would be the odd team out if we all end 10-6?

I'm hoping for 11-5, but even then who do we have the advantage over? I think both the Dolphins and us are 3-2 in the conference. Jets are 4-1.

It's very possible that the teams all end with the same division records. I assume the Pats will beat Buffalo, which will make them 4-2 in the division. The Jets have home games vs. Miami and Buffalo still. They are in control, where by winning both of those games, they would win if the three teams overall records were tied. But the way they played the past two weeks, they are very capable of losing one or both of those games.
But say Miami beats the Jets, the Pats beat Buffalo and the Jets beat Buffalo, leaving all teams at 11-5 and 4-2 in the division. I'm not sure what the next tiebreaker is, common opponents maybe?

edit- someone answered that as I was typing. Jets losing to SF, whom we beat, is big.

You've heard that expression DON'T ASSume anything right? Most of us would have ASSumed that we would have beaten Seattle too......I will just be happy if this team can find some way to get to 10-6......with all the injuries.....this may be a realistic goal for us right now..........

The Pats have that with both teams because the Pats lost both strength of schedule games (Colts and Steelers). I thought conference record was third, but you are right that it is common opponents first.

Well, now if the Pats win out and both the Jets and Dolphins each lose one more, it doesn't matter which games they lose. The Pats would finish with a better outright record. The Pats would be 11-5 and the Jets and Dolphins would be 10-6.

If we all end up tied, it's Dolphins in the pole position, then Patriots, then Jets.

At that point we'd be hoping for the wildcard over the Ravens.

That being said, with the Jets losing today and the Phins/Jets having to play one another, the chances of each team finishing 11-5 are remote.

Even with a 10-6 record we might win the division. If everyone finishes 10-6, and as long as we don't lose to the Raiders or Bills (a loss to a NFC team isn't as bad as a loss to a AFC team), we could end up tied with Miami and the Jets.

In this case, a Miami loss to, say, the Chiefs, would even them up in tiebreakers against us.

It would go to tiebreaker #5, strength of victory, with the Jets in last.

I have no idea what strength of victory means. So....

Right now, the Pats have a two-game edge against the Jets in common opponents. We've beaten Denver and San Francisco and they lost to both of those teams. If we beat Oakland we have three wins where they have losses. In that case we could still lose to Arizona and have some advantage over New York in common opponents.

With Miami, it's tougher. Miami has beaten San Diego, and we lost to San Diego. We can tie them in that area by beating Arizona.
