Chris Beanie Wells a Patriot????

I would love to see the Pats draft a big strong running back like Corey Dillon.

I have seen Chris Beanie Wells fall to us, or after us in a couple mock drafts.
I know we need defensive help, but we could also use a #1 back.

Maroney probably won't bring much in a trade, so keep him for a change
of pace back.

Look at this wells video and tell me you wouldn't want him in a Patriots
uniform.

A highlight video isn't the best thing to use as a sampling to show why a player should be drafted.. Its the every down play that matters.

I honestly don't think that the Pats NEED. They need to keep using the scheme they have currently, which is not the scheme they started the season with. They are using significantly less in the way of zone blocking on the runs. And I think that doing the same with Maroney would be beneficial. It makes life easier on the O-linemen and Maroney.

As a former FB, I would not let my emotions get out of hand with that group, that is for sure.

So Beanie Wells sucks because he got emotional for a game? Tell that to KG. That just sounds like nitpicking to me. You can't tell me that there is no football player who did not get frustrated or emotional after a loss or bad performance at one point.

Two of the guys were former OSU players. And, both thought it was over
the top. Frustration one thing. Finger-pointing another. This team has to go
defense,defense and defense in the draft. Bust-rate for rb's seems to be higher
than other positions. I think Beanie will be a good player. Nothing great. Just
good. Doesn't have that extra burst you need in the NFL. Can't overpower
NFL defenses like you can in college.

I don't think RB in the 1st round is the way to go for the Pats and Beanie will certainly go in round 1. I'm just saying I don't think judging him on one outburst after a bad game is a fair way to evaluate a prospect.

I dont want us drafting another running back. running backs come a dime a dozen in this league. there are going to be some decent RBs available this offseason to supplement Maroney. I think maroney is good anyways. we gotta give the guy a little bit of a break this year. when we saw him he looked terrible, hesitant to hit the line of scrimmage. we found out he had a shoulder problem. hopefully that will be taken care of come next season and he will have come back, better and fresher than ever

I'm not wasting my time looking at RB prospects this draft. Maroney gets one more full season to work with the O-line blocking (see DaBruinz' post). Assuming everyone is healthy during TC and pre-season, I'm satisfied with the current group.

Unlike most other positions, RB is a relatively easy transition from college to Pros. We don't have to draft one now, unless we're all convinced that Belichick has quit on Maroney, and won't give him another season to prove he was worthy of being drafted number one.

Why?
The Pats have Maroney, Morris, Faulk, and BJGE under contract for next year? Why not re-sign Jordan and let him try and win a spot?

I think Lamont Jordan has the same amount of tread of his tires as my 76 Mercury Monarch. ZERO. Plus with the chronic back problems he's had. I agree with Box. I really like Ian Johnson. He knows how to find the endzone

How is Johnson's blocking and blitz pick-up? I don't know much about him and have not seen him play.

Similar? At this point in his career, no, but that's not to say he doesn't have the tool set and couldn't develop as a quality receiver and blocker. He's taken a complementary role to a new feature back this season so his numbers are down, but he has 19 receptions to date (12.3 YPC), he had 25 in 2007 (12.5), 8 in 2006, and 4 in 2005. How many are screens I can't say, but decent numbers to work with.

I don't say he's the next Kevin Faulk, he's not an SEC back and I wouldn't use a 2nd round pick on him, but he is a back who produces in crunch time and in big games. If Johnson was there in the last three rounds, I'd consider him as a project 3rd down back and Special Teamer.

I do not believe the Pats will consider a running back in the first couple rounds since there are many other glaring needs. There are plenty of running backs to be had in the middle rounds (Kevin Smith - 3rd round and Tim Hightower -5th round being examples from last years draft. In this years draft Shonn Greene from Iowa is a big, hard running back that could go as late as the 3rd round, although is stock is on the rise. I think he will be every bit of the pro Wells will be - and yes, I do know he is a one year wonder like Mendenhall was last year.

With their first 3 picks in the first two rounds, barring a trade (which is always likely with Pioli and Bellichick) I see them addressing needs at safety, offensive line, and defensive end (Wilfork and Seymour are free agents following next season and I think there is a very slim chance Seymour gets re-signed). Tight end is also an option if Pettigrew or possibly Gresham slips.
