With 4 games to go, I'm going on record saying that 10-6 will be a remarkable season for the Patriots. 11-5 will be amazing.

I can't think of another team in the NFL who could take the injury hits that the Patriots have on both sides of the ball, to key players, and finish above .500. This is not excuse making, it's just stating the facts.

Sure the front office could have done a better job in replacing the CB's that we lost. But even if they had, I don't think we would finish any better record wise.

QB is the most important position on the team and although Cassel has done better that most of us could have hoped for, he's still no Tom Brady. The loss of Rodney really hurt. AD does way more than most fans realize and I think he would have been the difference in the Jets OT loss.

So yes, I get angry and sad over some of these losses. But if this team finishes 10-6 or better, they will have achieved a remarkable season. Just one Homers view.

after the chiefs game i would of signed up for the 10 and 6 plan

Re: 10-6 will be a remakable season.

If we go 11-5 and get the Division (and there are a few scenarios where this can happen) I'd call that our SB. Anything else is gravy.

That said: just go ahead and let your mind wander for a day or two. This could end up being an amazing story.

Post of the Year!!!! Someone who gets it! :)

Re: 10-6 will be a remakable season.

It's probably just "choice of words," but I'd probably quibble that 10--6 would be "exceeded expectations," and that 11--5 would be "remarkable," but I essentially agree with you. I really can't think of many teams that wouldn't have just started mailing it in after Tommy and Rodney went down, but our guys just keep coming out to play every weekend.

I also agree with the poster who said that just making the playoffs this year is our SB. As the saying goes, "you never know" what might happen then... Put it this way, I don't think any team will want to face these Patriots in January when they are playing with house money. I'm not predicting anything, but I'm not ruling anything out either.

You could argue we lost our offensive and defensive MVP this year in Brady and AD. Personally - and I know this may offend your appreciation for Harrison - I don't think losing Rodney was that big a deal in and of itself. In the games following Harrison's loss, our defense actually improved in coverage, and we didn't give up 20 points in any of the next 3 games. Harrison's loss hurt more from the standpoint of it limiting the versatility of the defense, and hurt us in the running game. From a pure standpoint coverage, I think Rodney was struggling this year.

But AD's loss was the killer. Since he has gone out, our defense has given up 28 points a more in each game.

It's no coincidence.

As for 10-6 being remarkable, I agree. Its remarkable that this team is that deep. What pains me is if we do have one injury too many at this point, it would be a year in which we fielded a very dominant team on paper, yet were not able to win the championship b/c of said injuries - it happens, but it feels like you were robbed. The loss to the Colts in the AFCCG hurt, but we were not the most talented team that year, Brady willed that offense to being successful. The loss to the Giants killed given the 18-0 going into the game. This season, I really think, a healthy Brady and a healthy AD, there's no competition for us - except for the Giants (again).

Next year, I imagine it will go back to being the same. But these years of domination and year in and year out competing are a very finite thing and not to be taken lightly. The Football Injury Gods did their best this year to try and take a year from us, and unless Colvin and Seau still have something in the tank, they may have succeeded.

If we had a 10-6 or an 11-5 record and the Jets, Colts, Steelers and Giants didn't win the Super Bowl, then I'd call it a perfect season.

Uh-oh! Banned! Or worse yet now Rodney will be given your home address.

Just how I feel. I agree with Nut & folks about the 10-6 as exceeding expectations should we do that well. The part I hate dealing with most is those 4 teams in particular plus Dallas basking in SB glory. Were the Tits for example to win it all that's fine with me.

Re: 10-6 will be a remakable season.

Great post. No other team could have survived all of this and still be considered contenders. Just look at all the teams who have lost a Super Bowl and what happened the next year without any significant injuries. Hardly any make it back to the playoffs.

We all know BB is the best in business. For anyone who doubted or alleged something about cheating, that can be laid to rest. I thought Lawrence Taylor said it best with regards to the plays, "Most of the time I didn't remember what play we had called in the huddle."

Don't forget that we were down to almost nothing at running back.
Although, I do love me some BJGE.

I just hope we can win out and get some help along the way.

Re: 10-6 will be a remakable season.

I'm happy about this season, I don't have an agenda, I didn't like Cassel to start the year but he won me over. I'm never really the sort to get down on my team, I try to look on the brightside.

All that being said the reality is that this team beat the teams it should have beaten with the only exception being Denver and then got thoroughly manhandled in 3 of its 5 losses.

I just don't think that is the definition of a remarkable season. Cassel's play has been remarkable but this team definitely played a weak schedule.

For all my *****ing (mostly mumbling to myself, with the ocassional fits of rage), I agree with you 100%.

It's also the Jets SB;)

Re: 10-6 will be a remakable season.

When Brady got hurt I was on record as hoping for 8-8 so we didn't have a 4-12 zit on our record of excellence. Now that I'll be disappointed if we don't make the playoffs, we're pretty much playing with house money for me.

Re: 10-6 will be a remakable season.

On BB and McDaniels' end, I think it is a remarkable season. This team should be be 9-3 right now without bonehead errors and key drops out of their control and on its way to 12-4 at worst. THAT, is remarkable.

On most of the players' end though, aside from a select few, I'm impressed overall but wouldn't go to say remarkable. Sort of let down by the drops and just simple mental errors that cost us a couple games.

Re: 10-6 will be a remakable season.

I'm proud of what this team has accomplished. It's amazing, and a testament to Belichick and Kraft and the organization they've build together.

That said, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the win/loss record as the reason to be proud. I think the entire AFC East has benefited from an easy schedule playing the AFC & NFC West.

Think about it -- last year the AFC East was the Patriots and a bunch of losers. This year -- and I acknowledge that changes were made, teams improved, etc -- the AFC East is a dogfight with every team over .500.

The Bills have fallen from media grace after their hot start, so we know how good they are.How good are the Jets and Dolphins, really? Would you confidently bet money on them over say, Baltimore, or even San Diego?

In the end, this team has overcome unbelievable odds and setbacks to be a competetive force in the conference, but with a tougher schedule I think it would be division-title or bust, just like Denver right now.

Good posting. Given the schedule, it's tough to call 10-6 "remarkable." If they go on to win one or two playoff games, I'll agree. But the only playoff teams they faced they lost to, with exception of Game 2 vs. Jets, and Denver, which honestly, they are only a playoff team because they are in a weak division.

Only two of those were stompings; two of them were close games that the Pats would normally win (and, if AD had been healthy, they would have won the JEST game, IMO), and very well could have won.

What a terrible year to watch... how many more things could possibly go against us? Unluckiest season EVER.
