Seriously, how could he NOT be playing this week? We are desperate to run the table and there are only 4 games left. What exactly would we be saving him for?

As much as I hate how we let our LB corps get old, I love Seau and his energy and enthusiasm for the game.

You know I love all our old linebackers, but damn, we're depending on former free agents and 40 year old men here.

For a defense that was too complicated for college players to learn, we sure put ourselves in a position of living or dying with one high drafted rookie pick here.

Hate to live in the past, but we screwed up. We should have at least 2 three year veterans with talent ready to move in now.

It's nice to hit on an undrafted free agent once in a while. It's not a good business plan.

I don't like when the age of our LBs gets up there either. I still think giving rookies significant playing time on defense is a great, and the best, way for them to learn. But at this point injuries are starting to really take their toll on the defense and Colvin (who is not that old) and Seau have been brought in to not only help that but ease our new LBs' evolution. Mayo should benefit A LOT from playing next to Seau and Bruschi as they are a wealth of knowledge. It's not the best that you could hope for (as in a Steeler type of defense) but they are guys that know the system inside and out and can still compete at a high level. The only major concern is how bad Colvin's injury is but he obviously passed the physical to play. I'm pretty confident our pass rush can at least improve with him and Seau has always been a run stuffer.

EDIT: I now realize I didn't answer the OP's question. I think both of them will play Sunday.

I think you miss my point and I don't like to look to the past or say I told you so but...

Of course we'll play any vet we can. Of course we'll throw rookies in there, what choice do we have?

When It comes to playing rookies, we needed to draft and play some quality rookies 2-3 years ago so they would be ready now.

Will Mayo develop some bad habits? It really doesn't matter, we need to depend on him because he's the only young high pick we've drafted in 8 years. The future is now, in other words.

I agree that I can't fathom how exactly this state of affairs came about, but, to be fair, it's not that BB flat-out refused to take linebackers high. I know he said he would have taken Jonathan Vilma if he had been available when the Pats picked that year, and they were apparently trying to move up last year to get Stewart Bradley (although I'm not about to complain too much about the outcome of not getting him--pick #40 or so in this year's draft).
