You really need to work on your reading comprehension. I didn't say had no intelligence. I said that "some of us like to be intelligent." Do you have a guilty conscience or something? Or did I hit too close to home and you have to get defensive?

there's alot of that around here........

DB, you've always had my respect for not mincing words............we've disagreed about much over the years, but at least your message is clear

Clark pre-draft write up:

SI.com - 2008 NFL Draft - Angelo Craig

POSITIVES: Solid college pass-rusher with a degree of upside. Displays good first-step quickness, gets leverage on opponents, and fluid changing direction. Covers a good amount of area on the field and chases hard to get involved in the action.

NEGATIVES: Controlled by a single blocker and slow shedding blocks. Marginally productive until his senior campaign.

ANALYSIS: Craig showed much improvement as a senior and offers potential at the next level as a pass-rushing linebacker in a 3-4 defense.

Like Robertson, Redd & Crable, another guy in the pipeline in terms of OLB development.

"Solid college pass rusher" :D

Also he compares himself to Osi Umenoryia(?). I hope he's right! Nice signing for us, it'll be fun to see how he does.

We're signing some of our future prospects now. It certainly can't hurt to have five young prospects (I include Woods) as well as Thomas, Vrabel and Colvin at OLB.

Exactly. And as others have pointed out, there really isn't an elite OLB prospect in the upcoming draft, so for next season, we're probably going to have to rely on what we have. If Colvin's healthy, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him back next season, to give these young guys - Crable, Redd specifically - more time before they need to be counted upon.

More LB's the better, It is nice to see a youth movement.

Craig was on my UDFA wish list in the past draft. He ran a very slow 40 at the Combine (5.07) and a slightly better 4.77 at his Pro-Day. I watched him play in a couple Cincinnati games and saw him in one of the All-Star games, he was a playmaker and always around the ball. With Craig and Robertson NE now has two of my 2008 OLB candidates on the Practice Squad.

Interesting to me as someone who knows NOTHING about college players. I like the idea of stuffing the PS with players to be evaluated. I'm sure the other good orgs do the same.

Love these player threads Tyler!

Good luck to him.

He's sort of a clone of Darrell Robertson.
Same size - 6-4 250.
Same general level of college productivity - Robertson had 36 tackles, 16 for loss; Robertson had 43, 8 for loss.
Robertson had double the sacks -- for a "good pass rusher" who "improved a lot his senior year," Craig only had three sacks.

As noted, Craig ran an extremely slow 40 at the Combine of 5.07. Many offensive guards can chase that down.

There are lots of junior DE's that project to 3-4 OLB. If the Pats are stocking these guys now, that's often an indication of future draft behavior. It will be interesting to see if some of the juniors come out (like George Selvie or Everett Brown).

Youth movement? Try a youth flood. The Patriots now have seven rookie LBs on their payroll (Mayo, Crable, Ruud, Guyton, Redd, Robertson, Craig).

One of the reasons that Craig ran slow is that he pulled his hamstring. Its why he was able to run a 4.77 at his Pro-Day even though he was still not 100%.

I figured there had been some kind of ouchie, but hadn't heard what. Thanks Db!

Don't be too hard on Lifer, he's got his acerbic side, but like a young Keegs he's had some fun and positive input and any negativity isn't to be taken seriously - he's like a kitten peeking under your kilt, if he swats anything dangling, it was just being playful and you should be proud he noticed. :p

Two things:

  1. I do not want Lifer swatting anything dangling under my kilt.
  2. How the HELL do you come up with this stuff? LOL

I'm not against this signing per se, but I would like to see a CB on the PS, too.
