Re: NFL International Series 2009

At least it didn't cost us a home game. Actually it will probably be more like a 9th home game. Thanks to our name, "New England", and recent winning history, we're the team of choice for most British fans of American football.

Re: NFL International Series 2009

gomezcat how many of us are you gonna let stay with you???

Re: NFL International Series 2009

How does this help the team in it's quest to win it all in 2009?? Once again money rules and the fans suffer.

Re: NFL International Series 2009

On the bright side.... they get a Week 9 bye next year.

Re: NFL International Series 2009

Congrats gomez, ironwasp, Mike, and other British Pats fans. :eat3:

From a competitive standpoint, I would rather play the Bucs on a neutral field than in their stadium. They are 12-2 at Raymond James Stadium in the past two seasons.

I don't really care, it just puts an away game on a neutral field. Tough to be too irritated by that.

PATS AND BUCS WILL PLAY IN LONDON[/b]
Posted by Mike Florio on December 1, 2008, 1:01 p.m.

The New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will play a regular-season game at London’s Wembley Stadium on October 25, 2009, the NFL announced on Monday.

The Bucs will be the home team, which means that the cannons at Raymond James Stadium will be firing for only seven regular-season games in 2009.

Said Patriots owner Robert Kraft: “We are proud to be selected by the NFL to be featured in next year’s international game. We have had a lot of memorable moments in recent years. I am sure our trip to the United Kingdom next year will prove to be an unforgettable experience for our players and coaches, as well as the many fans that will travel to the game. I think it is fitting that New England’s first game to be played outside of North America will be in England. I know that the UK is home to some of our most passionate Patriots fans and we look forward to the experience.”

Got something against Kevin O'Connell ??? :D

Brady should be fine by then, that's about halfway through the season. We'll get a nice bye week out of this too.

Re: Pats & Bucs To Play In London Oct 25, 2009

I don't know why they don't schedule this game the week after the bye (for both teams) and on a Thursday night. This way, neither team has to deal with jet lag issues. And the game is on National TV (assuming that either the NFL network finally settles with cable and/or sells the package to another network.

OH wait a minute, that would be like a midnight start time, wouldn't it, nevermind.........

Good point. You have summed up the two main groups who support New England over here very well. The latter, I suspect, may disappear when we stop winning. We'll see.

Someone has effectively asked me on the Planet already!! It's a small apartment, but you're welcome to the floor. :p

Hmm ... not much use to me, unfortunately. I'll be watching from my living room in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Still, it will be good to see a few Tom Brady jerseys in the old country!

Re: NFL International Series 2009

My guess is the Pats have a home game the week before, and a bye the week after, and the annual Pats-Colts game is the week after the bye.

Are the Pats playing the AFC South next year? If not, there may not be a Pats/Indy game at all.

Re: NFL International Series 2009

I thought most fans would be really pissed off if the Pats were chosen to come over, so I'm delighted at some of the early posters who said it would maybe benefit the team.
I'm not a fan of moving games out of the US. I've made my feelings known on this before. If UK, or other European, Pats fans want to see the team live, then why not travel over to the US? In saying that, I'm sure Ciara's Mum, and probably Ciara herself, will look forward to a trip to London. :D
I'm sure the game will be played at Wembley again which I have described on here before as a soulless morgue. England rugby team played the All Blacks on Saturday at a magnificent looking Twickenham Stadium which I think would be a far better place to hold the game, both for atmosphere and for underfoot conditions. Or how about Murrayfield for that matter!! ;)

What more fitting locale for a Bucs embalming? :D

Re: Pats & Bucs To Play In London Oct 25, 2009

1:30am start time to be precise!

Fantastic news though! I went all the way over to Boston last season for a game, and was intending to do so next season too. Now i may be seeing them twice in one season! :D

Re: Pats & Bucs To Play In London Oct 25, 2009

When the Pats were supposed to play in China they created jersey's with Chinese symbols on it. Does that mean for this game they are going to create jerseys with Engli... oh wait... nevermind. :)
