To be honest, I don't think it does. Plenty of people had plenty of respect for Brady last year, after he was hurt when Cassel was struggling, and even when Cassel was throwing for 400 yards.

I think all the rational fans always knew how special Brady is and would never entertain trading the guy away unless some team gave a Herschal Walker type of deal and still may not be enough.

You're right, and I give them credit for that. However, unfortunately the Big Show blowhards on Mondays (always) and Fridays (very often) "absolutely kill" virtually every caller regardless of her/his position on any subject. I love their knowledge of football (Smerlas and DeOssie, not Ordway and Sheppard), but the individual and collective bluster and smugness of this group has become, at least for me, a condition making them unlistenable.

1) a QB controversy is news, a backup stinking up the joint is not, it is the expected course of events. Ergo, a media outlet in the business of selling news will tart up a QB controversy story.

2) Brady never lost anybody's respect. Cassel gained it.

3) I agree that for anybody with any brains, the Cassel logic was predicated on marching what remains of this team to a SB victory. I'm sure there were those saying Brady's not a shoe-in at QB based on what they've seen this season to date. That makes no sense, but it made no sense before last night either.
