1) Sign Wilfork

2) Please, sign Wilfork

3) See above

4) Do whatever is necessary to sign Wilfork

5) Seriously, sign Wilfork

Pats are a 3-4 defense with a young, stud NT that has championship experience and is physically fit enough to play every down and still be effective. I may have been born in the morning, but it wasn't this morning. Sign Wilfork.

Wilfork is signed through next year.

Franchise Cassel, trade him and you have about a year to sign Wilfork.

Re: if we clear space ?

We stand at $24M under the cap before adjustments ($3.6M remains in 2008 cap that can be rolled forward to mitigate any escalators and incentives reached in 2008 that effect 2009 cap). We don't have to "clear space" to sign either, or both if one is tagged to be traded. Brady is also due, now overdue for his extension to retirement which could also free up substantial cap in it's first season... They have time and money to get Vince and Tom extended after the tag on Cassel rescinds with his trade...

so you want to wait till end of next year and see if wilfork agent might be tempted and convinced by his agent his wife into seeing how much she can get for his play. if it comes down to his wife and financial advisor trust me she will want the money. i have no issue if we want to out bid other teams.

No, we Franchise Cassel and trade him sometime in March. That's the beginning of next year, not the end.

:disagreement:

cool so the NFLPA can sue us and drag the patriots name in mud again as we always use something like that. Unless the patriots prove that they franchised and foud out in 2 weeks that some how they found out that brady is going to be alright they have to wait till start of season or else risk a legal action which you are fine with.if they loss that fine and loss of pick emmm,,

we are talking about bill belichick here. you think he cares what the rules say? as long as the pats franchise cassel "with the intention" of signing him, they are fine. they make up some BS about how the two sides couldnt come to an agreement so they had to trade him. pats did the same thing with tebucky jones. it can be done.

ding ding ding....we have a winner!!!! in all honesty Cassel needs to stay hot...(well after tonights abomination.....which was not all his fault obviously) in order for other teams to show interest,......If he plays like he did tonight....we aren't going to get as much.....

1.) Sign/trade for Asomugha of Oakland.
2.) Draft Mount Cody of Alabma and let him sit for a year studying under Vince, then let Vince walk and bank the comp pick.
3.) Hire the best medical staff possible to get Brady 100% again and use the San Diego pick to draft OT Jason Smith of Baylor to keep him upright.

We've been through this over and over. There is plenty of evidence and prior history of teams franchising players to trade them. And Brady being hurt "helps" the cause. They wouldn't need some miracle of rehab for Brady, they drafted a QB in the 3rd round last year. This whole NFLPA thing is a non issue - the only issue is being sure there's a market for Cassel so that we don't get stuck with the $14M+ cap number.

How many times do we need to say that they don't need to clear ANY space to sign Wilfork and Seymour and Cassell and Brady?

Most times when you sign an extension, the CAP actually goes DOWN the first year.

Plus there is an easy out to put lots of the contract value into UNCAPPED 2010.

The question remains who plays QB in the first half of the season in 2009 before Tom Brady gets FULLY healthy. How about hiring Brad Johnson; he is a vet with a Superbowl to his resume`.
I undestand that he might come very cheap. He could probably turn over the 2009 Team to Brady with a 2-5 record...

1) Trade Randy stone hands Moss for Chad potential Jackson
2) Trade Tom Brady to Lions for 2009 3rd round pick
3) ???
4) Profit!

Step three is take the cyanide capsule. Or become a Colts fan. Same thing, really.
