Looks as though he may have worn out his welcome in South Bend.. to speculate he will come here is what it is speculation.. may be a consideration if McDaniels moves on..

Sources: Weis' buyout smaller than believed -- chicagotribune.com

The common perception of Weis' buyout is not accurate. Multiple sources have told the Tribune the buyout, far smaller than believed, will not affect whether Notre Dame decides to fire Weis after Saturday's game at USC. One prominent alumnus called the amount "loose change."

"He has built zero relationships at the school," one source said. "It has been all about him and his ego."

Man, things sure do change. What happened to the "lifetime contract" he was given after his first season, as was reported over and over.

I think he should get one more year, IMHO. But, if he gets booted and comes back to NE, I am ok with that as well.

Re: Charlie Weiss may be looking for work on Monday...

Wouldn't it be hilarious if we got RAC and Weiss back next year....

It could happen.

Re: Charlie Weiss may be looking for work on Monday...

Wow -- RAC, Weis, Brady and Maroney all back at the same time. It would boggle the mind. Add a linebacker and a couple DBs and we're set for another run.

Re: Charlie Weiss may be looking for work on Monday...

I think you'd find NEM with a garden hose stuck in his car window.

Re: Charlie Weiss may be looking for work on Monday...

I have been dreaming about RAC and CW coming back to us. Some of my dreams come true you know ;)

Re: Charlie Weiss may be looking for work on Monday...

I think it would be stupid of Noter Dame to fire him now. Admittedly I am not a huge College Football guy but I do know of his struggles since going there. But a couple of tough years has them forgetting how he did with Quinn. He has a freshman and Sophmore QB after that he should at least get a chance with this QB as a upperclassmen.

Re: Charlie Weiss may be looking for work on Monday...

I had heard that CW was losing with the last bad classes of Willinghams recruiting years.
And that the next couple years will show if he recruited well.

is that true?

Re: Charlie Weiss may be looking for work on Monday...

I wouldn't hold my breath for either. At least not any time soon. Ego is what drives guys to strike out on their own, and Charlie's in particular was immense... Really was his undoing in Green Bend. They may not be anxious to return to the job that got them any attention in the first place since that would be tantamount to admitting their success was always about Bill. Neither will be hurting financially, so they may lay low or write that tell all book or take their ego to some other pro organization in hopes of proving it was them after all only Cleveland and ND were impossibly dysfunctional places to prove that because they're doomed... The Ty Law syndrome, which beyond $$$ has always been what kept him from coming home despite the fact he'd have been welcomed.

Re: Charlie Weiss may be looking for work on Monday...

What we need is some guy who's never coached an offense or defense since kindergarten and has a glass eye. In the Patriot way, that's got championship written all over it.

I say this as someone who took a while to get over Weis and warm up to McD, but I'd rather have McD. What the guy done this year w/o Brady, and the offense he's helped create the last two years - it's pretty impressive. (Though I still think Weis is a better in-game adjuster in big games.) So I'm rooting hard for McD to stay with us another year.

However, if McD does accept a head coaching job out there - and I wouldn't begrudge him if he took it - Weis seems like a no-brainer from our end. From Weis end, it'd be a shot to the ego, so as MoLewisRocks says, it might not happen.

I think we might be witness Josh's greatest coaching achievement right now, this season. He may, like Pioli, see the importance of the group and stick around New England. Weis and Crennel may be shining examples that the grass is most definitely not always greener.

And a Bill Belichick Disciple, I wouldn't be surprised is Josh plans to hang tight for a half-dozen years and wind up as the head coach of the Pats himself.

If McD becomes an HC next year, it's possible that Weis just might end up here again. I'd be willing to bet however that he takes a sabbatical of some sort before getting back into Football. I'm sure there's a huge amount of pressure being HC of ND, probably more so than being HC of the Pats when BB first got here.

The thing about Weis is you can make all the excuses in the world about him having Willingham's recruitement class and all, but look at Jagozindsky (sp?) at BC, he/s only been there for a couple years and yet BC's ranked higher than ND now and it is arguably much harder to get recruits come in to BC than it is to ND.

That would be nice - but remember, we thought the same thing about Mangini, and look how that turned out. When someone throws millions at you, it becomes tough to turn that down.

Actually I came along after the Mangini stuff went down, and haven't read much about it yet. You make a good point.

The only thing here is that coaching is a much longer career than playing.

That said, 18-1 followed by a winning season with a no-name QB... your stocks not gonna get much higher, I wouldn't think.

I only want Weis back if McDaniels leaves. I think McDaniels upside as an OC far outweighs Weis (remember this is only McDaniels' third year as OC). If McDaniels does leave though, I hope the Pats can get Charlie back.

Right - which is why I'm a bit worried that he'll strike when the iron is hot, so to say. I just hope he has a more solid head on his shoulders than Mangini does, and realizes that he still has ALOT to learn before he can really be a head coach in the NFL.

Mangini thought that he was all that and a slice of bread, when in reality he was a very good DC, but way underprepared to be a HC. I believe the story is that Belichick told him that, and Mangini left anyways, which is why there is the level of animosity there now that we see between them.

Re: Charlie Weiss may be looking for work on Monday...

Dear Santa, I would like a RAC, and a Weiss for Xmas. :D

"I'm dreaming of a Weis Christmas...
"Just like the ones I used to know...
"Where the referees whistle,
"and Raiders 'pissle'
"To see Paxton in the snow..."
