Joe Montana-Steve Young Comparisons For Brady-Cassel

Tom should just retire and give up his job. He has no chance of getting it back in this town.

I know you are kidding. However this is a business and a lot of fans will forget what Brady has done for this team.

Here's another moron misreading the thread. Who here is saying Brady is done?

Who are you calling a moron? Watch it pal? I would rather see Brady retire than watch him play for another team. It appears that this situation is headed in that direction.

This team will NOT trade Brady unless they are ABSOLUTELY certain that he won't ever play again. Period.

I love Matt Cassel, but lets please not keep up with this crap. It's Tom's job until he is unable to physically perform. We aren't even close to that point.

I'm saying your sarcasm isn't funny because nobody here is knocking Brady or saying he is done or should be traded. There is merely a strong comparison being made with a similar situation 20 years ago. And in that situation Montana wasn't traded until 5 years after his first serious injury and several years after the team already knew Young could play.

Brady will be back next season. Call it intuition. Part of the free agent attraction is the intangible of playing with Tom Brady. That is something Cassel is yet to develop.

I don't care who we sign, as long as it makes this TEAM better. The emphasis on team.

Cassel has far outreached in our wildest dreams what we thought he could do. Clearly he hasn't the coaching staff.

I'm not worried about Tom Brady. He is too professional and to driven to accept "fate". The big offseason question is what do we do with Cassel to leverage his explosion onto the scene?

P.S
This is a very nice problem to have re: Montana-Young comparison.

Interesting comparison. The impressive thing is that Cassel doesn't have near the experience Young had before getting a chance to start full time. Damn shame that he didn't have just ONE more year on that contract :(

I agree and hope you are correct. I just think your wrong.Brady will be a Lion next year.LOL!

You can't be serious. Unless by 'alot' you're referring to the 5-10% that know nothing about the game. Brady is a legend.

No I am not serious. Come on Brady is my favorite player. Unless he becomes a Detriot Lion next year.:D

Brady is my favorite player too. Making this comparison is not a knock on Brady or forgetting what he has done.

How is making an analogy with current times with something similar 20 years ago, somehow forgetting or dismissing what Brady has done for this team?

I am not referring to this messageboard only. I am also referring to some of the stuff I've heard today from people that I watched the game with and others not posting on this board. I got bombarded by those comments all game long. I'm getting used to it. I hear it all the time. He should just retire. It would suck to see him in another uniform, and the Patriots would be foolish if they let Cassel go. Cassel has proven that he is a starting QB, HE DESERVES TO BE A STARTER. Unfortunately, there is only one starting QB position on this team.

I do not expect players to have loyalty towards teams or fans because of situations like this. I hope this ends well for everyone.

I love Brady and don't want to see him go but we should give Cassel some more respect. The guy just threw for 400 yards in two straight games, a feat accomplished by only 4 other QB's in history. The past 2 games he threw 6 td's, 1 int. The int was off a tipped ball by Moss so not his fault. Last week he took the team from his own 30 with no timeouts and 1 minute left, to score a game-tying TD. We haven't even mentioned that the past 2 weeks he has also scored a running TD each game. Nobody is saying he will be the next Steve Young, but the parallels in coming in and playing well after a star goes down, winning by passing but also through scrambling ability, are pretty similar so far.

I'm about to join patjew if these cassel brady threads dont stop.

Im gonna put it simple...this year, we have cassel and we may or maynot make the playoffs...if brady were here, would there even be a question?

Just like how most everyone, including myself thought that Cassel wasnt good enough, and BB knew he was...BB also knows, for a fact, that brady is the man....its not even a question really.

Have alot of you bumped your head and gone crazy?

Oh, and montana and young have nothing to do with this situation at all, much like those stupid "the last time team A played team B in 24 degree weather when the sun was furthest away from the earth, they only alound one fg and a saftey" crap, its all the past, it makes no difference at all in this situation.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Thanks for not being able to read straight.

It's just a comparison of facts we have so far, nobody is saying Cassel is Steve Young.

What is the title of this thread? Again i ask, who is Cassel being compared to, Hugh Millen??

Is the point of a comparison to compare things that may be close to the same thing? Whatever though, either way...2009, cassel is gone, brady is here and everything goes back to normal.
