Back to back 400 yard, 3 TD games prove that Cassel has really come into his own. If Schaub could get 2 2nd rounders, surely Cassel has elevated himself to being worthy of somebody's 1st now?

let's have this discussion after the season.

I don't see any way that he isn't. It's a weak QB draft anyway and #1 QB picks are 50-50 at best. If you're gonna pay big money and #1 for a QB why not do it for one that has proven he can play. Yeah he has Moss and Welker but he's making great throws on the run, Cassel can flat out play.

For the 7,000th time he is an unrestricted free agent next year. Trading deadline for this year is over. We ain't getting a 1st round pick.

If he keeps playing like this he will be. Hard to argue with back to back 400+ yards even if the critics say its the 'system'.

And for the 7,001 time he can be Franchised and traded. Jeez.

What could the pats possibly do get something for him? I understand the franchise option, but don't know if the brass would do that ..

Unless we franchise him.

Franchise him and trade him to the highest bidder. I'm sure it's possible and certainly plausible that there will be two teams who'd be willing to bid it to a #1. This scenario, which many mocked initially, is becoming more and more realistic. Will it happen? Who knows? But it's certainly worthy of discussion.

think what you want, but people never thought BB would trade bledsoe to a divisional opponent.

i think they franchise him. I'd use the excuse that Brady won't be ready for the season. trade him right before the draft

you can't let this guy walk for nothing

the question is.... would you want him playing for the jets?

For those who say franchise him, please do your homework and tell me how you would free up $14 million in cap room.

Sigh.

We're $23M under right now. The $14M would free up when we traded him. So, right, homework - go ahead and YOU do it.

And it's 100% viable as a reason not an excuse. Brady is coming off major knee surgery and a setback. We won't know for sure when Tag time comes if he'll be ready. At that time, Cassel will be our starting QB until proven otherwise by Brady's knee. It would be a legitimate tag.

the last thing we need is to rush brady back like daunte culpepper was.

I see your point. What about the $14 mill. that we then don't have available at the beginning of the free agent season? That is my only concern.

We have signed only one high priced free agent in the last 5 years, so I wouldn't worry about not having available funds. I will leave to Belichick and Pioli to figure it out.

We'd have $9M +/- a bit. That goes a long way with UFA contracts that are often cap friendly for a year or two. And we could probably trade Cassel fairly quickly if we chose to.

No, lets have this discussion after next weeks game against the Steelers. If Cassell has a very good game against them, he's worth at least a #1. A team which is a qb away from greatness would give up a #1. Teams which need/want a qb ( the Bears, 49er's, and Lions, and of course the Bucs).

I don't see the Pats franchising him. If they do, and you don't find a trade partner they'd be stuck paying him millions to sit on the bench.
