John Clayton, aka Alien Man thinks Larry Johnson will be on Pats next year

Id love too see LJ in a Pats uniform for the right price of course of I wouldnt overpay for a RB at his age.

I'd be pretty stunned if LJ becomes a Pat. Not sure what his contract situation is (didn't click the link, at work) but even if it was palatable for KC to cut him, I'm not sure why they would, unless he is just too much of a malcontent.

From the Pats POV, unless he came for pretty much bottom dollar, I don't see it. I suppose he could replace Lamont Jordan's role, but LJ is still good enough to start and can sign somewhere and get starter or at least 50/50 reps. Heck, he'd be a brilliant signing for the Saints to pair with Bush.

Wow. I don't know what to make of this. If people thought our '07 offense was nasty, what will our '09 offense look like with Larry Johnson in the backfield?

Somebody better tell our OL to block better then.

Corey Dillon (2003 season with Bengals)
Age: 30

Top 3 Games

Week 1: 73 Yards / 0 TD
Week 2: 80 Yards / 1 TD
Week 10: 98 Yards / 0 TDs

Best Season Before: 1,435 yards (2000)

Larry Johnson (2008 season with Chiefs)
Age: 29

Top 3 Games (Though 6 games / 4 inactive)

Week 1: 74 Yards / 0 TD
Week 3: 121 yards / 2 TDs
Week 4: 198 Yards / 1 TD

Best Season Before: 1,789 yards (2006)

Dude... I could replace Jordan on the squad. So could my Aunt Ruth for that matter. How hard is it to NOT PLAY FOOTBALL?

Larry Johnson would not be a third string running back.

As for those who didn't click the link, the exact quote...

Next year, I'm going to make two predictions.

Obviously Tom Brady will be back and I think they'll have Larry Johnson in their backfield.

To even ramp it up, to catch New England next year will be that much tougher.

Jordan is still twice the back Maroney is.

LJ's in the Antowain Smith post-2001 stage of his career. It'd be another rent-a-RB. We really haven't had a franchise RB since Martin, and he didn't stick around beyond 3 seasons.

Would be a decent move. Buy low.

I have to think the Pats will be able to find a gem in the draft after seeing the first year success of Slaton, Stewart, Smith, etc. I can see them going after Leon Smith if the Jets don't resign him to eventually take over Kevin Faulk's role in the offense.

What the? The guy ran for 198 yards in week 4.....

Disagree. He still has a few good years in him and he is well rested this year. This would be a HUGE acquision ALA Dillon. They are comparible backs and in comparible situations.

That was kind of my point (though I didn't make it well). As much as people hate on Maroney, he'll still be in the mix for top touches in 09. Also, I think Morris has one more year in the tank. Faulk as well. So that basically means any other RB -- bet it Jordan or LJ -- is going to be way down on the list.

Of course, Morris could get hurt again and not recover, and who knows, maybe they completely cut Maroney (though I doubt it given what he's shown when healthy & his contract).

IMO, the move only make sense if both Morris & Jordan aren't in the team's 09 plans. I actually think a RBBC of LJ with Maroney as the COP would be pretty solid, but I don't see if happening.

Look for LJ to land in Tampa Bay, Land of the Veterans.

Leon Washington.:)

No need unless he signs for very cheap. Hope we focus on defense next offseason especially in the secondary.
