Their CBs are constantly getting burned for huge games

They used to be able to cover it up with a stud front 7 and defensive schemes, but now the D is aging and the schemes aren't fooling anyone

You're telling me having Ty Law back in 2001 didn't make a significant difference? Did you see the Super Bowl?

1) The D isn't aging. This is MEDIA BS and you've clearly bought into it. Yes, Vrabel, Bruschi, Thomas, and Harrison are all over 30, but look at the rest.
2) The Pats aren't using many different schemes right now because of the amount of playing time they are having to give Mayo, Guyton and Woods.
3) You do realize that Ty Law is only about an inch taller than the CBs we have right now, yes?

I read that Belichick became a secondary coach after being a special teams coach, and it didnt go so well, the CBs didn't listen to him, etc.

I think he has a complex against them now

Where did you read that BB wasn't successful as a secondary coach?

Main teem needs:

CBs
OL (RT)
OLB (vrabel is getting old)

ILBs are set for the future, Mayo and Guyton
Safeties are set, Sanders and Merry
QB is set, O'Connell
Welker is young still, the DL has a few more years

CB is far and away the top need

This thread really belongs over in the Draft room. Where there is at least one other thread on the Needs for the Pats.

I don't agree with you that CB is THE top need. I also can't agree with you about the safety position as Sanders is a UFA after this season. Also, you need more than 2 quality ILBs to effectively run the 3-4.

The Pats will likely look at a player who can play RG or RT. They will probably draft a corner. Definitely draft a TE who can block. Probably a DE in the Seymour mold. They should pick up a safety unless they find one in free agency.

I am not sure they will pick an OLB. As I stated in another thread, Woods is an RFA. Vrabel is signed through 2009. Thomas is signed as well. Crable is a young player who the Pats have very high hopes for in terms of rushing the Passer. The only way I can see them drafting an OLB is if they don't bring back Woods or Vrabel.

Harrison is basically retired now. Bruschi needs to retire. Vrabel will be done within the next 2 years. Adalius should have some decent time left. Seymour is pushing 30. Hobbs plays like he's 50.

If the CBs we have now could actually play like Ty Law circa 2001 then they'd be fine with me

Hobbs doesn't play like he's 50. But I guess since you can't keep your stories straight, you have to make things up. As for Seymour, so what that he's pushing 30. What does that have to do with anything. The fact is that the defense as a whole, is younger than it was last year.

No it wouldn't be fine with you. You'd just find something else to b!tch about. You also seem to forget that the rules regarding DBs has changed since 2001. But, I guess, as a troll, you want to ignore that.

yeah the CBs are bad because of the rules change

good one

I am shocked you guys are giving into a troll so easily just look at his damn signature.
Anyone that even remotely thinks play a video games is anywhere close to the real thing is just asking for trouble

The only real difference between Madden and the NFL is that in Madden Bruschi would have had the decency to retire by now

That isn't what was said. Nothing like throwing out BS because you don't have a leg to stand on with your assessments. Of course, this is typical of you.

1) Since 2001, two things have happened. There have been rule changes and how the rules are enforced have changed.

2) The rule changes include changes in what is pass interference and there is no longer a judgement call on sideline forceouts.

3) The enforcement has changed in that the contact between a receiver and a defender beyond 5 yards has become a point of emphasis.

The Patriots CBs aren't bad. Hobbs is good. Wheatley and Wilhite are rookies. O'Neal is a stop gap until Wheatley and Wilhite are ready.

People don't stop and think about the gameplans that the Patriots draw up. Like focusing on stopping the run and making a team beat them with the pass. That usually means less pressure from the front 7 on the QB and more pressure on the back 7 in coverage.

Gick - If Belichick really thought that Bruschi was done, Bruschi wouldn't have been offered another contract. Bruschi, while he's not been the Bruschi of old, has been playing very well.

LOL! Just to complete the cycle.....if you had the decency you'd retire from this board right now.

BB has focused his attention on DL since if you can't get to the QB then it doesn't matter who is playing CB. The QB will find that opening. Look at Denver last year.

Truer words were never spoken.

There's no affirmative action rule that says the Pats must draft a cornerback early.

No, but it might explain why the secondary has been an annual mess since 2003
