CB is the only position (besides QB) where Belichick/Pioli have never used a 1st round pick, made a trade, or made a significant free agent signing

Why is that?

Good question.
Maybe we'll go for another DB high in the draf this year!

Nah I'm thinking they'll take a TE this year

I'll ask BB when I see him next.

Who cares? The more I see CBs the more they are the same, outside a very small number.

Look at the teams the Patriots have played, the Colts played a CB who was three days off the street to go against Moss. The Jets had aging Ty Law, Hank Poteat and a 4th rounder (Lowery).

CB is the new RB, unless there is a total stud it is not worth a 1st round pick.

Their CBs are constantly getting burned for huge games

They used to be able to cover it up with a stud front 7 and defensive schemes, but now the D is aging and the schemes aren't fooling anyone

You're telling me having Ty Law back in 2001 didn't make a significant difference? Did you see the Super Bowl?

I think the schemes have been dumbed down and are not nearly as complicated as they used to be because we do not have the players to execute them.
The front seven has no pass rush demon and the secondary is completely bereft of playmakers. A very bad combination!

they traded for daune starks a3 rd rounder

I think they would have picked up a DB in the first round this year had they not lost it to the Spygate fiasco. I think they had Leodis McKelvin(sp?) on their chart. They will always draft on primary need and best value.

lmao. Gick, the d is aging? well, duh. That's because people grow a year older, every year. Now if you meant to say, the D is old, you would be incorrect. Go look at the average age. The defense is actually getting younger, compared to previous years.

As for the SB? I watched it, but I doubt you did, being that you were probably 5 at the time.

I read that Belichick became a secondary coach after being a special teams coach, and it didnt go so well, the CBs didn't listen to him, etc.

I think he has a complex against them now

You're forgetting the Jets traded up to get Darrelle Revis in

the first round in 2008.

ugh, i really hope they do not take another TE in the first round. id rather trade our 2nd acquired from San Diego and attempt to obtain Winslow

Main teem needs:

CBs
OL (RT)
OLB (vrabel is getting old)

ILBs are set for the future, Mayo and Guyton
Safeties are set, Sanders and Merry
QB is set, O'Connell
Welker is young still, the DL has a few more years

CB is far and away the top need

Ty Law was on the roster when Belichick took over the team and

was released before the 2005-2006 season. Asante Samuel was

drafted in 2003 in the 4th round and Ellis Hobbs in 2005 in the 3rd

round. The only significant free agent signing was Ty Poole in

2003. Ty Poole was a pretty good player until he started having

injury problems.

They have not used a 1st rouder, made a trade nor singned a significant free agent on CB, OT, FB and of course QB.

They have used 1st rounders on O-linemen, which counts for OT

FB isn't even a real position
Using a 1st rounder on a HB counts for that

QB they had bledsoe when they started and then brady was a fluke

If you're going to get silly about grouping, they have used first rounders on safeties, which counts for DB.

Time for you to get back to the video games...

Actually, the Patriots traded a 3rd round pick for Duane Starks in a 5th round pick back..

However, Starks was injured all the time and wasn't very good, though the trade looked solid at the time
